Stuck on what I wanna do for the sump. The tank came with a 40 breeder that appears to be a DIY build however the thing is filthy.

What are you guys using on your large tanks? Are you using name brand eshopps, Fiji, titanium etc. or are you guys just making your own and being successful.

Looks good I'd clean it up and use it.
I've used everything from a bucket to a Rubbermaid container to a 10 gallon tank.
I have a trigger systems right now.

I made my sump out of my old acrylic tank(140 gallon) 72x20x22... Only have three chambers. Chamber 1 for the water intake into sump, felt rack and carbon rack and Reef octopus 100INT skimmer. This skimmer dialed in for wet to take alot of junk out.
Chamber 2 is big area. has 100 pounds of Florida live rock, 3 bags of siporax in small milk crate for easy take out a rinse and a Reef Octopus 300 INT skimmer set to almost dry skim. Will be adding the ozone generator to chamber 2 soon.
Chamber 3 the wall is set to 8 inches height, so chamber 2 water height stays at 8 inches. For my return pump and my UV pump. The UV pump pulls water from this chamber, to the UV and then comes back into this last chamber. The tanks return pump send all the water to the tank. So when in feed mode the UV is still on working but as in a recirculating mode using only chamber 3 water.

I found that having less chambers allows you to add/change and have your sump grow as needed without trying to fight to get things in....
I am using two skimmers because we have 40ish fish in the 300 and it is the easiest way to remove excess waste and nutrients etc from water...
This sump work for my tank but may not be for everyone...I like simple and efficient .

I use an ESHOPPS. It's what came with the tank.

Either but I would scrub in tank water and replace the water I used to scrub with the new water you made.

That's easy. In through the white, out to the DI if you got it, out with blue to a bucket for about 1-2 minutes and make sure TDS is 0, into a clean bucket or th auto top off tank.

I mean all the tubes and everything it's very confusing, the instructions aren't necessarily clear. I used to do this with my dad but he's not here right now.

And this cannot be missed( for me lol )after each water change. A cap or two of Microbacter7, 3ml of each bottle of Trace Elements and RO water to clean the glass ;)
