Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Check this out, have been dosing pods every 5 days and phyto daily since crab tank cycled, no light on yet but the tank gets ambient light from the room. The pods cleaned the sand up nicely, but Nitrates jumped up big time. Before and after pics below

Pods are great!

been culturing my pods and phyto, so no added cost to me on the crab tank
Do you culture tisbe pods or a mix? I have a tisbe culture and its only been two weeks but the glass is full of large ones & baby ones and I was considering resetting it already.

Tisbe are the best if you ask me, but I do apocyclops and tisbe separate. Tisbe pods will change food sources easily, based on what's availible

Curious how you reset your cultures or if you have a post about it. I hear some people just do like a "water change" while others completely reset the culture. How often do you reset the tisbe culture. I see them all over the glass so I may do that later today or this weekend.

so this is the first I am finally seeing growth from a mangrove out of so many I have tried. These were a batch of 5 from RC. I have them only in tap water now and sitting in a south window. moved to wall just for pic while swapping out fresh water. FINALLY I'm getting somewhere. I think 2 will not make it but going to leave them in there for now. I think this has been in here for 6 months? I have been thinking of placing one in the overflow after a really long acclimation to salt water. that is where I think all my past issues failed. I never started in fresh water. always salt.

I basically do a water change and use a PVC pipe filter with scraps off my filter roller. The filter is 50 micron and I saved the pieces left on the old roll that had not been used. I just back flush the filter to remove the pods

About every 7 to 10 days I harvest based on how thick they look in the container

Yeah I mean I see them everywhere on the glass I think. I will probably add a photo later for reference. The big ones I can see very easily moving around. It is shocking how big some of them can get lol.

I forgot to mention Bighorn just up River from us as well.
We've got bighorn just across the river from us too!

Unfortunately that's not the state my brother-in-law has a tag for.
