Patience
Oh boy, is this a sign of goni addiction? Lol

OH NICE!! Need pics once they get settled. Is that a flat worm on the side of the bag on the left side?

How long do you guys think I should wait before refractoring? I've poured another 2.5 RO.
If you are adding water, give it a few minutes to circulate and then squint away!

Hi guys,

This isn't something I'd ever think I'd have to type, but unfortunately I do. I'm not sure what's going on at all, but I'm having a massive die off of corals so far my plating montipora is pretty much gone, 2 of my 4 hammers bailed out, my goni is sealed shut, my monti digita is starting to decline, my torches haven't been very open, and finally my stylophora is also starting to decline. My phosphates were a little high and my nitrates were low but I lowered the phosphates and nothing else seems crazy wrong. I have noticed that my urgent has chewed away. The coating on my powerhead wire, could that be it? Other than that I'm absolutely clueless on why this is happening. I already ordered a new powerhead l.

If your urchin chewed a wire it is possible you have stray voltage in your tank which can cause all types of issues. If you have not done so already, unplug that powerhead and get it out of the tank, AFTER you unplug it. If you have urchins you need to protect any internal wires. The quick and dirty, but effective, way is to split the jacket on a wire a little larger than the wire you need to protect and encase it. Then just check the jackets during routine maintenance and replace as needed, a lot cheaper than buying new powerheads.

Wow Walker I'm so sorry to hear all this.
Get that powerhead out of there pronto.

Exposed wires can cause some stray voltage for sure, as well as the potential for releasing metals into the water column.

No name, Jill, you already know me lol, I look for what my eyes like and I just ask the price and that's it lol
Well give us their scientific name lol.

So sorry to hear about your tank! Keep us posted!

My heart is broken for you Walker. Im at a loss for words man...

Like everyone said, remove the powerhead and maybe a WC and add carbon. Im grasping but id throw everything in the book at it.

Yeah I unplugged the powerhead when I discovered it and I will take it out now. I leave for Thanksgiving tomorrow afternoon and the powerhead is supposed to come tomorrow. Hopefully it gets here before I leave. This is just really sad for me. The wire didn't have any metal exposed, it was just that black part that held the two wires together with the colors on it. Not sure if that is causing it but gosh do I hope it is because I just tested all my parameters and they are pretty much perfect. I will add some carbon tonight. Thanks for all the suggestions.

So sorry Walker, I think Tim experienced the same thing. You have got good advice. I would add a few water changes as a precaution in case it wasn’t stray voltage ( stray voltage is the most likely cause).

So sorry Walker, Now, reading the messages where Kevin mentioned Tim, it could be a coincidence that the cable is like this, and the problem could be something else. Perhaps there's some sign of oxidation on any of the equipment? Maybe a new air freshener spray in the house? Or maybe something got into the water?
