Cheese head cMERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL !!!!! Been a busy day hanging out with my daughter and the wife . Did some shopping and some eating . I almost went and bought some stuff called Chemiclean for the tank . Then i decided to just give it a real good clean myself and a water change . Who ever let me know the paper towel trick Thank You works great Tank looks great will see how it does in the light tomorrow . Do i need to use something like Chemiclean to deal with the "C " word bacteria stuff ? or can i clear it with out ? Thanks and merry Christmas EVERYONE !!!!

Thank you :)
Of course.
One of my secrets to reef keeping is remain calm at all times and do only one thing at a time slowly.
If you do too many things at once you'll never ever know what the problem was in the first place.
I've been keeping saltwater tanks for almost 40 years.
I've been doing water changes every week for as long as I can remember.
I think honestly I've been changing too much water because since I've stopped for awhile, my tank looks better than it ever has.
It's ALWAYS a learning experience.
Patience is the best medicine.

I cut back back on the amount of water we change, but not the frequency, a few years ago and I think that if anything the tank is a little more stable. We're changing 2 gallons per week in our 100 gallon (about 82 gallons actual volume) so around 2.5% per week. I think water changes are very beneficial but that large changes are only need as a corrective measure to a problem like an overdose.

I Agee with this . Definitely stay calm !

I didn't see them anywhere else in Arizona, just Casa Grande. Likewise, before here I hadn't seen one since I was knee high to an acro frag.
We used to have them when I was growing up over at 35th Ave and Thunderbird. I went to high school with one of the kids from the family.

Your light are normally on ? I thought you were blacking your tank out . No lights remember !

It’s reef roids and I would say about a pinch at least 1-2 times a day . Hopefully you have a tester I would suggest a Hanna tester would be good . Test your water twice a day once in morning and once at night . Use this to try and keep your phosphates up to 0.05 to 1.
It looks like he has a different product.

+1 to this.
I've gone back to the smaller skimmer and I think I'll go back to just 5 gallon a week changes instead.

cyano is what i have I'm pretty sure . I thought this is a bacterial thing . does blacking out the tank help with that ? does it need light to grow like algae ?
Cyano is a photosynthetic bacteria.
