Anyone know if bubble anemone or long tentacle anemone are safe for clowns? That's the only one they had at my LFS this morning.

Bubble tip anemones are the usual anemone that clownfish like to host in saltwater tanks that most people use. I think in the wild they do carpet anemones usually but those get massive. Long tentacle anemones will also host clownfish as well. Bubble tips are usually the ones people recommend but they can take over a tank and reproduce rapidly when happy. I assume you meant bubble tip when saying bubble anemone.

Clownfish may take a while before hosting an anemone as many have been captive bred for generations and have never seen an anemone. I got lucky with my clownfish and within a month he moved into my bubble tip anemone in my work tank.

I dont know if I've ever seen clams on the half she'll before.

Maybe I was thinking of oysters, but clams can be served raw on a half shell, too, apparently. Clams, oyster, mussels... All are just a no for me

I've had the tang for almost 10 years.
The trigger I got as a baby about 3 years ago, maybe 4.

@Calmwaters do you own a set of calipers?

I don't have Red Sea mounts and I need a couple of measurements but they need to be fairly precise to make the collar fit on your light mounts snugly. The idea, so far and subject to change, is to make a collar that fits around your Red Sea mounts. It will have a plastic screw that tightens it in place but it needs to be a fairly good fit to begin with. There will be a bulge on the bottom of the collar that will contain a captured bolt to go through the center hole in the OR4 bracket and secured with a nut. This is still very preliminary but I'll need the width and height of the bar in the area I highlighted.

The collar will slip over this area if you remove the head.

Then it can be clamped in place with a thumbscrew and the screw on the bottom will go though this hole in the OR4 mount and be secured with a nut.

We should probably move this to a DM but I'm hoping that other eyes will see things that I may have missed or have a better idea.

I had a bubble tip before and they loved it. They had this one listed as bubble anemone not bubble tip so I was unsure if it was a different kind.

I don't know what a caliper is but my husband probably does I can ask him when I get home if he has one.

So I ordered the 20 Gallon Brute can from Home Depot for pickup yesterday and they gave me the 44 gallon one with wheels. I asked the lady if they should change it out for the smaller one without wheels and she said just to take it but this thing is massive lol. I guess it is good in case I need to perform a large water change at least!

How do you all measure out how much salt you should use to mix in the brute trash cans when doing water changes?

I have a scoop. 2 "just less than level" scoops per 5 gallon bucket (just over 4 gallons) and then if it tests between 1.026 and 1.028 after mixing were good. I'll add water or salt depending on the test.

I make marks on the side at 5, 10, 15 gallons and so on. It may not be perfect but once you do it a couple times you will know if you need to add a little less water or little more water. I mix my salt at 1/2cup per gallon. Let's say I mix up 10 gallons and the salinity is a bit low. I can just add salt a little at a time until my salinity is where I want it. Or... if it's a touch high, add RO until your desired salinity.

AlyciaMarie, mussels on a half shell or whole and split, cooked in garlic butter are to die for! Throw some other seafood in there too... shrimp, fish, squid... my mouth is watering just thinking about it
