Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
New corals are in the tank but they aren't happy yet. I will post better pictures when they decide to open. The birdsnest, 6 head duncan and RFAs are from a seller I'm trying on ebay, the rest are from SBB Corals.

Those RFA's have some nice coloration! and nice size birds nest... as long as there aren't any aiptasia I'd say it's a win.

They were a good price as well I think. This is from the ebay listing.

shmear is also cream cheese spread in the NE
Truth be known, it's actually a derivitive of a Yiddish word. I have heard Jewish people put down people by calling them a "Chicken liver shmear."

I have a protein skimmer that has been sitting in my sump for months but not running. If I decided to try and use it again should I let it run say over night before I start trying to adjust it? I got aggravated last time because the cup was constantly filling up with water and not much dirty stuff and I gave up trying to fix it.

Which skimmer do you have? If it's an AC skimmer I would just open the air valve and the water flow adjustment all the way so it doesn't collect anything for a while then if everything looks ok and it's not overflowing you can start closing the valve until it starts producing.

I forget the name. Lol I won it on here shortly after I set up my tank. Let me see if I can find the name....

Oh it's DC! Even better. I would just open all the valves all the way and set the DC pump to its slowest setting and gradually increase speed until you start producing skimmate... Give 30 min to an hour between each adjustment for the skimmer to catch up.

Ok thank you so much I will work on it probably Friday evening or over the weekend. My bonus son and his fiance and maybe my son are coming for supper tomorrow so I will be busy then,
