Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Oh no. Sorry to hear. Were there any bite marks? Did anyone bully her? That’s awfully quick.
I didn't notice anyone bothering her everyone's been really easy going. I know they're are pods in there i have seen them.

I did notice that her, the fox face and the chocolate tang were all trying to claim the same cave last night. Could the fox face have stung her and that killed her?

It is possible but I doubt it. The Mandarin would have had to be above the Foxface to be envenomed.

Mandarins are a somewhat sensitive species. With a good food supply once they are established they usually fare well but they sometimes only pick at food, and they need a LOT of food or just don't settle in. If there was sleeping space jostling going on then it doesn't seem the fish have an established hierarchy at the moment. If I'm remembering correctly you just added a Purple Tang which should be tank boss almost immediately. That probably introduced a fair amount of passive/aggressive shoving over night and the Mandarin would be the definite loser against a Foxface and Chocolate Tang.

The purple tang was added yesterday but he's tiny compared to the others and the Foxface has been the boss.

I had no idea mandarins where more susceptible to the sting of a Foxface and my Foxface is a lot bigger than she was.
Most fish are susceptible to a Foxface sting but they are fairly rare. The Foxface has to be very scared and feel cornered. Most fish loses to a Foxface are probably accidental.

I did lose a Black-Ray Goby to a Foxface sting but that was because the idiot was swimming right above the Foxface when it spooked. A Foxface will raise it spikes when it gets spooked but then it tends to run. They are lovers not fighters by nature.

Guys I just found my mandarin goby dead.
sad lilo and stitch GIF
Sorry about losing your goby.

So sorry Amanda.

Today is just not the best day. Meh, pretty much summed it up for me.

I received three DOA Pithos and a few snails that seem okay and lost our smaller Banggai to aggression. The aggressor is now in the display hiding in a cave from the other fish. I've told them where it is hiding.
Rough one, Tom. Sorry.

I don't think they were fighting over the cave per se I think the Foxface and chocolate started through the small cave and got startled by the mandarin because I seen the Foxface flip its spines up but I couldn't see if they actually made contact but it would be a very tight squeeze for the three of them to go through that cave without someone getting stung.

So sorry for your losses as well.

Hi big was she? When I got mine it was no bigger than my pinky nail and was afraid the power heads would suck her right in. Maybe it was acclimation? If it was PetCo you can bring back for a refund I think.

She was from my small LFS not petco and she was maybe 2.5 inches. My lfs has no guarantee on saltwater fish.

So she was a good size. Stress probably. Tang and coral beauty may not have left her alone since they were new ?

I did see those two kind of try to push each other around yesterday shortly after i put the tang in the tank but the tiny tang smacked the not much bigger coral beauty in the face with his tail and then they seemed to leave each other alone.

You could ask Jay and see if he has insight. He might tell you to look for flukes or something.

NOOOOOOOO, I hate that for you
was he not eating...I have several in my tank and adding pods every week is key for a while...
Now mine eat blood worms when I feed the tank..
Key is to keep tank load with pods....
