Ignore the towel that's there incase water gets splashed into it. Its setup right now as a freshwater. There is no hole in the stand but I think me or rather my husband could put one. He built the stand for the tank without a hole since I wasn't planning at that time to ever put a sump in.

Is there a second hole in there under the towel? — Likely a bit smaller than the plumbing visible in the above photo!

(I ask because the original plumbing appears to be for a single drain, and single return… this can be loud, so I’m a fan of converting both holes to drains (Herbie configuration), and plumbing the return line up the back of the tank/over the rim!)

The tank belonged to a friend of mine that had cancer and she asked me to take care of her fish for her before she passed away. She and most of her fish have since passed away and I could move the remaining fish into my 125 gallon freshwater setup.

I would prefer it to not be super loud but at the same time I do have 6 other tanks in my living room running. My current 125 gallon saltwater has holes behind two over flow chambers one on each side that connect to pipes then they drain into the sump then a hose connects to the return pump and brings the water back to the tank.

John... or anyone with Acans. Where do you have your placed at? I know they are a 'lower' light coral.

Yep definitely low light towards the bottom. Most people dont think of them as rock filler, but you can use them for that same purpose, just like a cyphastrea or stylo. All of those low light, in between, outcrop rock spaces are perfect places for acans! Too much light though and you'll lose your coloration at the very least.

Okay, so your current 125g saltwater tank has two corner overflow boxes with single drains in each! This was a very popular method for many years!

— your 125g saltwater is likely already loud enough that running the current freshwater tank in question as a single drain tank wouldn’t be noticeable… though, it would mean you are implicitly relying on one drain, unlike your 125g saltwater which has redundancy against a room flood…

— I think safest bet with this new plumbing job would be to use both of those (seemingly 1”) bulkhead holes for drains! This gives you a “emergency drain” in the event that the main drain clogs! (Plus, you get near-silent running as a bonus)

Yes my current 125 is like you said. I did have an incident with it where a snail got stuck in the drain and one side over flowed onto the floor luckily I was home when it happened and caught it fast. I have since glued crafting mesh over both holes so that doesn't happen again.

Do you have a picture, usually splitting doesn't cause skeleton to show. My torches and one hammer is splitting and I can only tell when lights go off and they shrink in.

Yes that is what happened it filled up some but didn't overflow.
