Understand. However, the average surface water temperature of the Great Barrier reef is 26-28 Celsius or roughly 79-82 degrees Fahrenheit. The last recent bleaching event, the temperature rose a mere 1 Celsius or 1.8F.. pushing temps close to 84 degrees. If you set your temp at 80 and the heater sticks on, it won't take long to cook your corals. Mine is set to 78 degrees with a 1 degree deviation. I know that doesn't seem like much of a difference. I know several coral farmers/hobbyist/propagation that run their systems at 76-77 for a "safety cushion".
I am not saying you are wrong, I just wanted to convey some information.
Thank you for the information my friend! I thought 80 send a bit high so I will drop it a bit the heater should not be able to stick on with the inkbird but I will drop it to give it more of a cushion.

For what it's worth, I agree this is a good call!

I keep my a 80 because the heater only puts out at 76 which is where it’s been for at least five years .

I’ve purchased about four of the finnex heaters and all of them are about 4 degrees off . Amanda Make sure you test with a thermometer as to where you set your temp . I’m sure all heaters have a difference

The inkbird is what actually controls the heater but I do also have a thermometer

Not technically. The Inkbird should only work in the case of a heater malfunction. The heater should control itself so that the Inkbird isn't turning on and off.
