I had a crash of the breeding station about a month ago. I haven't done a count but I only have around 25 sub-adults (1/4" size, not yet breeding size) that I know of for sure at the moment. I think there are few adults in another tank but I haven't gone hunting for them to be sure. There are maybe a dozen egg spirals but it is a month or two away from anything worth selling. I was raising them for my display tank but decided to go with the Peppermints because I was having trouble getting a breeding group going in the display. Too much predation in a mature tank with wrasses.

I was getting ready to tear down the breeding station because I thought I had lost all the Berghia but when we turned on the light to clean it out, there were twenty-five sub-adults cruising the tank and there are probably a few more hiding. I have no idea about how to safely ship them even if they were big enough.

I have two true peppermint shrimp in my tank that made it over from the transfer in early February. I didn’t even know I had any left in the Biocube. I mostly only see them after lights out. They don’t bother anything in my tank.

This does seem to happen. I know a few people that say their Peppermints never touch anything else.

No idea why as all of the Lysmata are quite capable of taking out LPS. If they are well feed, then they have no need to predate your LPS but it seems some of them figure out that a number of LPS taste a lot like Aiptasia and are easier to take out.

My local has a lot of saltwater stuff, roughly have the fish and goods, they don't have high end corals, but they have SPS and LPS

If you ever get this way, you'd love our LFS. They have an outrageous offering of corals and fish. Lol and they have lay away. That's where ive gotten most of my fish and corals

I'm fairly certain boggessi is what I ended up with from Petco.

Lysmata boggessi is what I have as well.

A lot of people refer to wundermanni as "true Peppermint' but there are a over dozen species of Peppermint shrimp. Lysmata wundermanni, Lysmata boggessi, and Lysmata kukenthali are the only Peppermint shrimp that I know for sure may eat Aiptasia. Probably the best bet is ones that were tank raised on Aiptasia.

wish there was a real LFS around here, there was one that was pure saltwater in Panama City, but he closed up

I have Peppermints in my display tank right now but need to add more. There are two or three varieties that eat Aiptasia the most common is Lysmata wuderermanni, but Lysmata boggessi, and Lysmata kuekenthali are also proven Aiptasia eaters. The issue is there are a lot of very similar looking species of Lysmata. The most common issue though is that it seems pretty common for Camelback Shrimp (Rhynchocinetas durbanensis) to be sold as Peppermints.

hey guys ive been in the hobby for almost a year now. one thing I haven't been successful at keeping is anemones I love the look of bta and rock flowers but they only last about a month before they curl up and never to be seen again. I also had good success keeping euphyllia until I added peppermint shrimp to the mix to get rid of a very small aptasia issue. is there any chance the reason I cant keep these is because of the shrimp. if so what are some ways to remove them from the system.

A word of caution, ALL shrimp are opportunistic feeders. If you are going to add Peppermints I would first move all LPS to a separate tank during treatment, especially Hammers.

I appreciate the advice Tom. That's great stuff. Ill have to check the chart you sent and compare them to the ones at the LFS. You're right about the hammers. My last went went after them very hard, and I just added 5 hammers to the tank. How are the ones in your display behaving for you?

I have an awesome lfs, they have an outstanding selection of fish and corals and what they don’t have they will order for me.

Thanks...I am super excited about this one..and all the new planning I have been doing.
Learned from all my mistakes over the years.
Lowered the stand to 37 inches and the tank is 23 inches tall. Super easy to get in and great eye height when sitting at the recliners to watch tank.
Going to cut up the old 300 and make maybe 4 or 5 feet length x 30 inches wide sump out of it. Still planning all of the sump design.
It will have no glued in sections. Gonna build acrylic drop in chamber sections for easy moving and cleaning...
Will wind up being 3 chambers,
Cutting off the bad part(seam separation)

What corals and fish are you thinking brother? Mixed reef? Sps dominant?
