I am stoked with the purchase! Can't wait to get more corals to show off with them!Sheesh, that works really well.
Weird...it is already back open...Is it normal for Duncan's to retract at night? It hasn't done this for the first 10 days or so after I added it. It would stay nice and inflated even with the light off and and the lunar cycle running. I noticed it retracted last night too...has me a bit paranoid...
Mine does this sometimes! It usually stays about half open at night, then perks up quickly in the morning! Is it normal for Duncan's to retract at night? It has started closing up once in a while randomly through out the light cycle, but quickly reopens. I have my kessil running the lunar cycle at night, you wouldn't believe how puffy it stays most of the time! Can't wait to get some more corals! I saw a really nice toadstool frag at my LFS. Hmm and ha'ed about it for a few days and when I went back to get it. It was sold...oh well. I would really love to get a frag of a long polyp variety! And start building my zoa and acan gardens!Mine does this sometimes! It usually stays about half open at night, then perks up quickly in the morning!
Diatoms on the sand looking good!!!
Nice! Been looking for a long polyp leather as well, such cool corals. It has started closing up once in a while randomly through out the light cycle, but quickly reopens. I have decided I really hate my current sand. Even with my return pump turned way down I am still getting duning and bare spots. As soon as the Caribsea goes on sale again. I will be buying 40 lbs to replace it with special grade. Kicking myself for not just going with it from the start.
So if you see it go on sale, definitely hit me up!
First of many! Not much has been going on with the tank lately...which could be a good thing as the tank is settling in. Life has been crazy and I haven't had a chance to go pick anything else up to add to the system. I do need to start building my clean up crew. Going to try to grab a few crabs (Halloween Hermit possibly), a few trochus snails, and a few nassarius to help turn over the sand bed from my LFS this week.
I did do the systems first water change today (5 gal). I am impressed with how clear and clean the Nyos Pure salt mixed up! Zero residue in my bucket and water was crystal clear. I do still need to figure out my stand lighting.
Which LFS? I live down in Spanish Fork and should be getting my tank this weekend. It will be a slow process for me on everything though. The tank I am getting is 36x24x16.Went to my LFS today to get rock for the cube, but they didn't have what I was looking for. They run them in their display tank and they are called coral trees, but I can't find them anywhere else. They are made by Caribsea. They aren't a stacked piece. They are all one piece. The employee was hopeful they would get more early next week. So I will be checking in frequently until I can snag one. These are 3 from their display tank.

My Duncan’s always retract at night but normally never fully close up.. most of my corals do this as well… I think it’s pretty commonIs it normal for Duncan's to retract at night? Yeah, I am learning they are kind of a moody coral. If my chromis even swim any where near, it closes up for a while. My Duncan’s always retract at night but normally never fully close up.. most of my corals do this as well… I think it’s pretty common
I’m a beginner on my first salt water tank… the Duncan has by far been pretty easy to keep and has been growing faster than most of my other corals. As ugly as it was, the custom stage was exciting because it meant it was all working like it was supposed to!
I thought Duncans were supposed to be beginner friendly??? I still need to get one.
You saw this in my thread but I went with TBS live sand. Big chonky stuff. I love it! I still get some blowing around though. I plan to get some of the Two Little Fishies Reborn calcium reactor media to fill those spots in.
