How far apart in time were the two tests above

about 30 minutes, give or take.

that is very very handy info. I have no explanation as to why they varied so much, not any. even your fills were rather consistent for the levels posted across tests...the readings varied but the fills were pretty even across vials. good thread man

that info you posted will save a thousand tank's live rock organisms from being directly dosed to 4 ppm ammonia as we wield this about in the cycling threads.

I just went to the LFS and got the RED SEA Ammonia test kit.
If I'm reading it correctly, I have 0.0 Ammonia.
I'm not sure why the API kit reading were so far off from each other.

and then just one more api if you can, so we get that red sea right next to the api in the same time frames and sample. this is my fav thread all day. I asked Randy from BRS to do an ammonia video like he did with nitrate testers

What did you do to cycle the tank?

Not sure if its measuring free ammonia or total ammonia. My tank shows 0 free ammonia but always shows .5 total when I use my seachem test kit. (It allows you to test for both separately )
