1 or 2 Return Lines

I was trying to see pros and cons of 1 vs 2 return lines. I just drilled the overflow holes and now trying to decide on the return and haven't seen a debate on this. I have two power heads for a 5 foot tank so I don't think I would need 2 returns for flow.

Let the debate begin.

PS it took about a half hour per hole to drill. The synergy overflow template worked wonderfully, especially since I was drilling it upright. I'm going to save this template for the return holes as well.

I want to know the same thing, I drilled both, but for now I'll block one off and run one.

That depends, two pumps or one?

If there is only one pump, then you would be reducing flow by splitting the lines...

If two pumps, then do not merge the lines and keep them separate. Two pumps is handy for redundancy in case of failure, maintenance on the pumps, running reactors, etc...

The thought was, if I did it, to have one pump and split the return. But I wasn't seeing a benefit other than symmetry. I thought I will be drilling one hole.
