Welp, new tank, so new thread heading.
Picked up a bigger sized acrylic frag tank from my local (well 2.5 hours) fish store who was changing things around. With limited space in the house, it seemed like a good use. Assuming it would fit in the door...
With about 1/8" of an inch to spare!
Looks like this when not holding its stomach in to fit through the door:
The current plan of action:
Piggybacking together, the 30 cube will drain into the overflow of the 105ish, tying the two tanks together, and saving lots of extra plumbing. The return line will be split off the one main as well, so that should make things easier too.
If/when I want to move them around (not be tied together) I'll just have to get some spare acrylic and glue the holes shut into the overflow. Easy-peasy.
Lighting is going to be T5's for the 105, I ordered a 6 bulb from Hamilton yesterday. Thinking of a 150 halide for the 30 cube, but might end up with an ai prime HD I bought a few months ago.
I didn't realize how excited I was to have a bigger tank, cause the fish choices really gets interesting with this much room. Unsure to go lots of small (10-15) or a few bigger (2-4) . We'll see.
Thanks for looking!
Old intro below:
So with the seasons changing, and being inside more now I've decided to use up some empty tanks I've got sitting around. I've got a 60g and 30g cube that are drilled, so I thought I'd use the 75G I picked up a year or so ago at Petco for the sump. It's tempered, so can't drill it (I learned the hard way). I've always wanted to try something different with my next build, so this will let me stretch my creative skills a bit.
I've always loved a really big, display refugium, so I'll be using the 75 as the refugium and the sump. I've got some ideas for that, which I'll get to as I move the build along.
Need to build the stand, plumb and pick up some more equipment. I've got the 30 up now, with an AI Prime HD. Looking into lights for the 60, as I think I want that to be a mixed reef, and I'll use the 30 more as a specialty tank. With roughly 150G of water combined, I should be stable enough.
Pics up once I get building. Hoping by November to have everything up and running. I really want to do this right, so I'll be taking my time to do it right once, and not have to worry about later.
Thanks!
