Went a little overkill tonight. Cut a hole in the top of the hex (against Tru-vu's recommendation) and added the Tidal 35. I wanted the filter pad and carbon, but the skimmer is a much better Nitrate extractor. Using the vacuum while drilling and cutting worked awesome.

In other news, I got my 20 long on sale at Petco and am planning out that build and livestock transfer. Going to take my time on that one, make sure I will be happy with it instead of making big changes after 2 months like I did with my current tank. Also going to use a larger substrate so my sand doesnt shift like the Arabian desert.

What part of the 20L are you drilling? I think I saw somewhere they temper the long sides.

I have not researched if I can drill that tank yet. I may be stuck using the hob stuff from this tank. I would like to use a sump but will not use an external overflow. My wife would have a fit if it overflowed on to our cream colored carpet.

So I just did a little searching and Aqueon states on their site that durring the $1/gal sale they use any piece of glass they can get their hands on. Looks like I will be grabbing some polarized shades and using my laptop! How did your experiment go?

Not well, glasses weren’t polarized, lol.

I am going to pick up a pair of the gas station "polarized" glasses and take them to the lfs to see if I can see the difference. I am hoping that one long side of this tank is standard glass.

A pic of my new build. I just realized that my screen name wont make much sense with my new tank. I guess it'll be an inside joke! Just did the test with polarized shades and a laptop. There seems to be no tempered glass on my 20l. I could see the streaks/waves of dark spots on my shower doors and the front windows in my truck, and no streaks on the aquarium glass. Now I need to find an overflow box that is not so $$$.

Well, the tank survived my 4 day hospital stay with my wife and newborn. I came home twice to feed and dose Kalkwasser, but just left it alone besides that. The alk dropped 0.6 dkh over those 4 days, but dosing a little more kalk every day got me back to a happy looking 8.6. My tank is really starting to show some initial maturity. There is lots of coraline growing, my corals are all showing growth (at different rates of course) and even some sponges growing that came in on who knows what. I will be starting the new build thread, and 20190331_122259.jpg updating this tank until the move over. I have all my parts and tools to start. Now I just need some time. Hope to get to the next build soon!

Fijicube.com offers so fairly priced great overflows
+1
I was going to go with eshopps but support your local businesses right? So I'm going with a fijicube overflow on my 40B.
Might even get a fijicube sump or sump baffle kit.
