Thanks fellas! I moved the birdsnest to a less flow of an area and it looks a lot more "full" now. Also put the meat coral on a piece of PVC to help it from floating/moving around so much.

Copper in QT

So I have my 3 damsels in the QT and I thought I'd do a trial run of dosing copper (Seachem Cupramine) and see how it goes. On Sunday I added the recommended amount and 48 hours later it says to dose the same amount. For me in the 20 gallon long tank it required roughly 30 drops per dose. So yesterday I added 30 more drops then came back a few hours later and used the Seachem copper test kit to test. The bottle recommends 0.5mg/L and nothing higher than 0.6mg/L. I tested and it came right back at 0.5mg/L. Now I leave it at this level for 14 days and that is the length of the recommended copper treatment.

I am curious to see how much it will fluctuate when I do a water change but I'll report back and let everyone know. I am assuming I have to dose the makeup water that I'll be filling the tank with after I remove the water for a WC...? I'll test a few hours after the WC and see where the level of copper is at. If too high, I'll take water out and add freshly mixed saltwater to dilute. If too low, I'll just add more.

These fish are a set of "practice" fish I guess you could say. The first time I attempted a QT the ammonia spiked and I almost killed my Foxface. So this time around I went with a set of less expensive and more hardy fish to get my QT up and running to give me some practice on what needs to be done properly this time around. This will also help get my confidence back up in the QT processes/procedures along with dosing copper for the first time.
I was talking with my fiance last night and the foxface was in the QT almost 2 weeks when the ammonia spiked. Tomorrow is 2 weeks that the QT has been open again and last night I am showing signs of ammonia again. Big WC planned for tonight to help combat that.
Once the fish are done with their 14 day treatment of copper they will have 7 days left to make the full 30 day QT cycle. At that point in time I will decide to bring the fish back to the LFS or put them in my sump. I have a feeling that we will keep them and keep the QT tank setup full-time with those 3 fish.
If my QT practices are successful, hopefully in early May I'll be ordering a group (3-5) of zebra dartfish to QT for at least 30 days that will eventually go in the DT.

Created a "storm" in the DT today by turning all the power heads on max flow and took a MJ1200 and blew all the rocks off. I'm glad I did this with the lights off so that I really wouldn't see what I stirred up. Man were those rocks covered in crap! I let all the pumps run for 2 hours then turned them back to the normal flow pattern. I also changed the filter sock just before to see what I collected in the storm.
Later today I'll perform a WC while sucking out some bubble algae. I plan to filter the water with 2 sock filters and I plan on using the water to do a 50% WC on the QT with it.

Came home with a Maxima clam, green slimmer, meteor shower (I think), maze coral (I think), neon goby, tuxedo urchin, red fromia star, and a portal viewer.

nice those guys are absolutely gorgeous full size. hard to rival from any free swimming goby. i really enjoy the thread ive a couple different tanks over the past few years and my next tank(august is the plan) will be a 48x24x24 120 i love the dimensions. i have a 75 and its spectacular i can only imagine what i could do with a couple more inches in the back and some more head room. goodluck and good handling the outbreak!

Thanks for following along D! I agree with you that 120 is a perfect sized tank. Not overly big yet not a nano!

My fiance fell in love with these dartfish the moment she saw them in a friends tank. I really like how active they are so hopefully they'll do well and add some good movement in the tank.

Those dart fish are pretty sweet. I've never heard or seen them. I just got a green slimer the other day they're super bright under blues. That clam looks pretty big nice pick and great FTS tank is coming along sweet.

Thanks! Yes, they are really cool fish, the pictures don't do them justice. They have a lot of orange in them on the bars. I saw a pair of them in my friends tank and they are very active, top swimmers. I can't wait for them to be added to the DT. I'm also happy with the Slimmer and clam. The clam has a lot to get used to with the fish swimming by and all.

I've added the trio of dartfish to the DT and they are doing great. It's been a week today since they have been in there and they have finally started to come out a little more now.
