I lost another one this week.... But the one that I do have is fat and happy! I even upped the feedings to 5 feedings per day to accommodate and apparently it didn't help. Not sure what or why. I was nervous to buy them to begin with because of all that I read. I can now honestly say they are rather hard to keep. The weird thing is, is that I saw them eating every time I fed them!!!

Caught my Hippo Tang tonight and returned it to the AC. Also grabbed my urchin and traded that in as well... Was quite shocked I caught the Hippo so fast so I didn't get anything from the store to replace it with.
I've got my eye on a Lavender Tang and will hopefully be getting one in a few weeks to start a month long QT process.
Not much else has been going on with my tank. My birdsnest got knocked over while I was out of town and I glued it back down the other day. Now it is bleaching out like crazy from the bottom up so I pulled it out and dipped it in Coral Rx but didn't really see anything come off of it. Decided to frag it into 3 pieces to get rid of the bleached out areas. Glued them to frag plugs and 2 of the 3 look great today. The biggest one isn't looking great but not bad....
Hopefully I can figure out what is going on with it. All the other corals look great.

Yep, everyone has a eye out for my regal,lol. Yeah, when I go on vacation, I expect to see colonies when I come home but it never happens. Rather, something has been picked on or broke or lost or who knows. I'm installing a web cam I can access via Android app while at work or vacation. This way I can have my tank sitter on the top of any issues, especially when I'm up near you see family in western NC.

That's a good idea. While I was away I told my fiancé to not send me photos as I wanted to see the coral growth that I don't see everyday by looking at it for hours on end. I came home and was pretty surprised by the growth.
Things didn't start going down hill until I did my normal water change... Strange!!! This hobby will always keep you on your toes.

Did someone say vlamingi?? Looking forward to seeing the lavender once you get it. Have you thought about an all Xenia tank just to make traveling easier? Haha!

Yeah, you guys have 8 foot tanks and can house the big boys. I'll be there someday but until then I'll live vicariously through you.

GHA: Let the Battle Begin
Ok, so as much as it embarrasses me to post the photos of how bad the GHA in my tank has gotten.... I have decided to post pictures to hopefully document a comeback!
I've cut all my feedings in half, added 20 hermit crabs, started to run GFO and plan to do 1 day per week with lights out all in an effort to help combat this GHA that covers just about every inch of rock in my tank. I also trimmed my chaeto back to 1/3 of it's size in hopes it will pull some phosphate out as well. I traded in a basketball size clump to AC yesterday.
Things have gotten worse since I got rid of my urchin and Blue Tang. I knew they picked at the algae but didn't have a clue just how much they did. My two spot bristle tooth tang (blue eye kole) arrives on Thursday but it will be QT'd for at least 30 days. After it's settled in I plan on adding the Lavender Tang.
Nitrates are slightly above undetectable
Phosphates pre-GFO 0.08 both with Hana Checker and Red Sea Pro
Don't laugh or cry too much when you see the photos.

Been there, much worse in my situation (pics prove it). Lights out for 3 days, pulling it manually, no dent. My only dent then total wipe out was zebra turbos, big golf ball sizes ones. This only made the ugliness go away. Wet skimming, gfo and red sea nopox, and completely stopping mysis feedings (100% pellets now) is my only noticeable decline in PO4. Come to find out my sand was locking in waste, so now I'm going BB with tons of flow.

Thanks Brad! I've been following your thread so I know what you've been dealing with. How often are you replacing your GFO?

Every so often (yep, another slacking on my part,lol). I haven't changed it in a month because I just run mine in a bag. I believe mine isn't exhausted yet (PO4 keeps dropping). Once I see my numbers start to climb ever so slightly, I'll change it.
