180 stand question

Have a 180 in wall, finishing up trim etc before I do a fill.

Stand is doubled 2x4 legs, 2x 8 cross beams and top frame. Wall side is 5 x 2x4 at 16 inch centers. Top is 3/4 inch plywood. Another 3/4 ply top covers the whole stand, then the 1/2 inch drywall of the living room wall.

This results in a 1/2 inch strip directly under the front trim that isn’t supported all the way to the floor. But the tank is on 1.5 inches of plywood on the 3 other sides.

Anyone see issues with that 1/2 inch not being fully supported down to the floor?

So if I understand the concern, you are cantilevering 1/2 inch of a total of 1 1/2 inches of plywood out the front side of the tank. You're fine!

Close- It’s cantilevering 1/2 inch of 3/4 inch plywood out the front.

I still think it’s fine- but the wife wanted to hear from you guys.

It’s fine, I had a 180g like that for years!

(Well if your wife is going to be reading these)....I really think this going to fail. I would recommend tearing down this tank and going with at least a 350 gallon. This tank could be used as the sump and then that way you could rebuild a better support structure...

Budget ideas might be good. Just got a contractor quote for a fishroom in the basement, but our boiler went out and our neighbor reneged on a deal to share his fence. So our budget just dropped 2k... putting us way below what the guy quoted.

Uugghh. I might have them frame it out and I’ll do the rest but we have a 20 month old, and a new one coming in August, so time is kinda limited.

You could get some nice 1" x4" oak or maple and make a chair rail with some vertical pieces to fit under it, decorative and piece of mind.
