Both of my new baby eels settling in nicely! One is a 6” Fimbriated Yellow Head, she’s eating like a pig and seems happy. The other is about 6” and thinner than a pencil. She was labeled as a Caribbean Viper Moray Eel (Enchelycore nigricans). This has to be the smallest moray I’ve ever seen. Definitely having second thoughts about releasing her into my main display as planned. She didn’t want to eat at first from my tongs but after some effort she is eating no problems. Thinking I may need to set up one of my smaller tanks to house her. Sorry for the crappy pics, hard to get good ones of her. If anyone has kept this type of viper moray before I would love to hear your experiences. Growth, temperament, etc. My greyface is very curious and has been poking around the mega tank mate box I have her in temporarily while I set up a 20 gallon for her.

She just arrived Tuesday, at first I regretted putting her in my main display so quickly because I couldn’t find her and didn’t know if she would eat. Had to look in the middle of the night to find the cave she choose.

you need to make a build thread and share the growth of the Fimbriated

I can do that as this isn’t my first fib but I am more curious about the Caribbean Viper Eel Enchelycore nigricans. The info I’ve found is very limited, I have zero experience with this one. Maybe I’ll do a thread for both. Definitely been an experience so far and it’s only day 3 lol.

do them both in the same thread is that pic of the Caribbean Viper do you know how big they get or is that a surprise too haha

Ok will do! And yes, the third and fourth pics are of the viper eel and the two above, the last above is from google. When I google the genius species that’s the picture that comes up so it’s going to be a guess unless the info I’ve found so far is correct. If I have the name correct they get about 100cm

just over 3ft then nice big eel :p
The pictures do not do her justice just how small she is. Her aggression is similar to the fib, she’s a tiny fireball lol. She curls up like a viper ready to strike when I walk near. I will capture some videos. I will be impressed if this tiny eel grows that big. Definitely hope so 😁

Going to work on the build thread soon but thought I’d post a video to show the three eels a lot better. (Excuse the reflections, link below)

Thanks! Yes lol and my most active! Day or night he’s out and about. My 7 yr old named him “explorer” because of how active he is. I did notice some interesting behavior, in the beginning he acted as if he’s hungry all the time so at one point I fed him daily. Couldn’t figure out why my nitrates and phosphate were out of control then I discovered that he was storing the food in his den. Not really sure why, he would take it and not eat it just hide it. Switched to every other day feedings and it’s worked out well.

Lol mine did that too when he was growing! Stopped that now that he is at his adult size 😂 he even was storing dead fish in his cave! Couldnt figure out why I had a huge ammonia spike until I found his little collection of damsels and chromis he hoarded!!

Yes this! Thank you for letting me know, his diet consists of silversides, fresh squid and shrimp. Always ate the squid and shrimp but would hide the silversides. Good to know it’s not just me and really good to know that this behavior has an end date lol!

Picked up another Baby Viper and added it to my build thread. I will capture better pics and video tomorrow. It’s about the same size as the other. I hope they get along like the guy said they did 😁
