watch the five minute guide, brs 160, 16 years of reefing, ulm, brs wwc hybrid. I know that is a ton of videos, I was watching reefing videos for 2 yrs before I started truly considering a reef(I had a tank and other stuff but I never got anything done)

Wood is not something I would put in any of my tanks - especially not wood I picked up on the beach. Not saying you can’t put it in your tank, it just sounds really risky to me. And I agree, there is likely a good reason that no one does it.

Only wood I would use is the wood you can buy for aquariums and I mean the thin hard branch type you showed in a photo earlier.

Remember your tank is only 20g so it won’t be able to dilute or handle certain woods like a 100g.

So you have a friend with the exact type of tank you want to set up... have you asked them anything? Seems like they’d have a lot of valuable info for you.
I did, they said macros like dirty water and I don’t need crazy lights or filtration. I am gonna do mine with much more corals though.

What is the specific gravity of his water? Just asking because his fish are brackish water fish.
Is it 1.025 or??

I would not use twigs you find outside.

Oh ok. Could I use wild mangrove out of water and mabye a palm frond or some oysters and stuff? I want to have a realistic blended scape. I want it to look good but realistic I am not going to do like a 1 foot sand bed and mud but I am going to do it to a point where it’s imperfect perfection

Sailfin mollies are naturally brackish fish actually. I would do wild sailfins if I got mollies. I really like the general Caribbean biotope and with all the fish/coral/macros I like I might be able to make a very close biotope!
