20G TALL Nano Reef!

No new major updates overall. I am getting some green algae which looks like some green hair algae starting to grow on my branch rock. I cleaned that up some today so hopefully that doesnt start going ape **** on me.

2nd water change of the tank today happened! Ordered up a hose to make life a bit easier for doing water changes with little less spillage and mess.

New thoughts:

After this weekend im picking up 2 clowns to increase my bio-load. the brown star polyps are spreading like crazy, brown mushrooms are doing great. Time to slowly add some more bio. 2x clowns!

I'm hoping to see what kind of black friday sales I can get on some coral. I think I wanna get something for the clowns right away to hopefully start hosting! Any thoughts on what I should get for this tank for clowns?! Dont think I wanna do anemone, leaning towards torch or frogspawn maybe?

what type of clowns are you wanting to get?

well apparently my epoxy job wasnt done well because yesterday all my reefscape came crashing down into pieces..i used the stuff from PetsMart and i guess i didnt put enough on...basically wanted to quit onthe spot but im collecting my thoughts and just going to try epoxying everything together again. I guess this also gives me some time to review my structure and make changes again.

Been quite a while since I last submitted a response or update on my tank but the tank is doing well! been keeping up with water changes, added some poly filter last couple months and have really just let the tank settle in. I have updated the reefscape some, I struggled with epoxy and picked up Caribsea "Rock Lock" and it worked like a charm.

My livestock with the polyps and mushrooms have been doing great and I finally just added some new coral into the tank. Finally got some GSP, one of my favorite looking corals and also added a Frog Spawn to the tank!

I'm going to let those guys soak and establish themselves before I finally add my first fish, definitely leaning towards 2x Clowns and potentially a goby of some sort. I probably wont go more than 3 fish in a tank this size imo.

Looking great, well done!

Thank you! Its been a slog of progress but im trying to take it one step at a time really..dont want this thing to blow up on me lol.
Sounds like you are doing this the right way and it shows .

Thanks im definitely trying. I relaly wanna add a ton more stuff to the tank but im trying to take it slow especially with such a small tank. My biggest issue right now is my sand is covered in algae so I'm trying to figure out what to do about that lol.

New Update!

Picked up some new livestock, got a beautiful Toadstool Coral for the main center piece of my tank, also got a small frag of SPS,I doubt this will succeed but for 5 bucks I said screw it lets give it a shot.
Picked up a couple yuma frags as well..really nice lookin stuff now to hopefully watch it grow.

Been screwing around with my water flow at this time and I think I got it into a good position at this point but we'll see how it goes, added in some CUC to the sand bed with some snails and hermits to hopefully stir up my sandbed and keep it cleaner.

Unforunately, my frogspawn took a hit as I was trying to rock lock it to the rock it was on and I think one of the heads is pretty boned.. I'm hoping it recovers but I do realize that stuff like this happens..Hopefully we get improvement and its not completely lost :(

Pictures to come but im struggling to take pictures with my phone to showcase everything. Any suggestions??

If there is tissue damage you can do an iodine dip but amoxicillin treatment of the tank would be better. Not sure what your having difficulty with taking pictures, do you have Orphek lenses?

I recommend getting some orange clip-on filters for your phone! I use the Orphek lenskit paired with an iPhone 16 and can take some pretty decent photos with it!

Updates!

HAve picked up a bunch of coral from a local seller here in my area and have added the following:

-Zoas
-Chalice Frag
-Green Gonis
-Firecracker Cloves
-Got a 5 dollar acro frag just to see if it would do okay so far it seems to be alright

Other updates:
-My frogspawn isnt doing too well, i got some rock lock on it and it seems to not have done much better sincethe intiial iodine dip..it seems to be holding in there but its definitely not coming out of its skeleton casing i guess?
-Algae is in full bloom right now ive been keeping up on water changes but seems like something is causing a huge influx of algae.
-My GSP isnt showing nearly as much but I think thats due to the algae issue, when I clean it off it shows up some more but that seems to be problematic.

Media in my HOB:
-ChemiPure Blue
-PolyFilter
-Seachem Matrix bag

Im going to be picking up Salifert testers as it was recommended to me by local reefer so I'm hoping I can figure out where my problem is.

I definitely have a bad feeling that this is Dinos and then I feel like I'm screwed completely...Hopefully once I get a baster I can blow this crap off tomorrow and scoop it up but I'm definitely nervous about the tank right now especially now that I'm starting to put in money on corals..granted its not alot but it seems like I'm hitting a period in my cycling that I thought I was cleared of.. :(

Dinos is not the end , it is unfortunately a process that you have to go through. I would recommend installing a green machine in display and cleaning out the gross stuff daily and let it ride, the most you can do during this stage is be patient and keep the water clean, also increase flow and ensure that there is nitrate and phosphate present so that competition can live and best dinos

Thanks for the words of encouragement, any chance you can confirm this is in fact dinos judging by my pictures? hah.

Looks a lot like when I had dinos lol consider it reefer initiation if you can endure dinos you can have a very successful tank many give up during this stage and it can be demoralizing , I’d say follow my advice and do some research of your own - the worst thing to do is over react

Appreciate ya for all the information! I'm going to my LFS to pick up new water and doing a water change and gonna get to cleaning..any suggestions on getting the stuff off my corals? Some of my corals arent glued down so I guess I could take them off and wipe em up?

No I would just use turkey baster , you don’t want to disturb too much as Dino’s is toxic and you don’t want to bother the coral toooo much , hence why after spraying everything off I would do a water change
