Well just got through our first power outage at this house 36hrs! Was I ready for it....no of course not. I am dumb. Tank was without power for about 16hrs so far no causalities on the reef will know more tonight when I get home from work. When I say no causalities I mean I see the fish swimming around as for corals stuff looks sad but it usually does under a flashlight. Reset internet and got the Reefi back on schedule. Lost a couple freshwater fish nothing catastrophic but loss of life from something like this was dumb and totally my fault. I bought a generator last night after work and I am sure that helped to mitigate losses.

Lesson learned dont trust the infrastructure no matter how good it seems. Be prepared.

How's it looking tonight? I hope all goes well for you.
Thank you. Looks like I may lose a couple sps corals unfortunately. They are bleached pretty bad one has rtn'd and is gone. Looks like a couple heads of one hammer as well. All fish seem fine and snails and crabs seem ok as well. Stupid on my part.

You're not the only one. I don't have a backup power failure set up either. I have been planning to but kept procrastinating.

Yeah its easy to become complacent thinking its been years since a power failure, in my case 6 years at this house and never. Had it happened earlier in the day on sunday I would have gone out and got one that day. I had just picked up a couple new corals that day too. They seem unfazed by the time without power though. Its still a waiting game as the sps looked unhappy but not to the level they did later in the day yesterday once power was back on. Maybe the light was too much for them after being in the dark for a day? I doubt it as reefs go without light during storms and such for longer than that but maybe? I did some testing last night and it all seemed good and with in normal range for my tank.

Well some good news the custom Bashsea sump I ordered for the 180 build is here! Now I need to remove all the paper from it and get it in the stand, lets hope it fits without removing the tank from the stand lol.

@tbrown not sure if you wanted a new sump pic but I figured I'd drop a couple from the pick up day. I have been really busy between work and home stuff. I moved my mom in with me about 2 years ago and she has decided this year she needs every flower or garden plant ever created in "our" yard. Of course she's not really able to do a lot so it's on me to take care of it. If it were up to me the large flower bed in the back would be just grass as it only takes me an hour to mow, pulling weeds and dead heading flowers takes most of the day. Lol

One day the 180 will be up and running.

The cerium oxide works great if you do it right. @N1tew0lf1212 gave me a few pointers over the phone. I tried it and well you can see the pic 80g is clear as day, even with lights on super blue.

I'm going to pick your brain on exactly how to do this.
My 50gal cube is foggy!
It's still dry so now is the time to get it back to Crystal Clear or at least better than it is now.

Its not hard it is a lot of work though. You need cerium oxide. I was told to get the pink one specifically, I have been told its only pink because of impurities. Keep a spray bottle handy to lightly mist the section before and during work. Once you think you have it clean let the cerium dry a bit on it and buff it off with a soft cloth. I used a cordless drill and a felt wheel to do the work. When you mix the cerium with water make it like a wet oatmeal consistency. Dip your felt wheel in the mixture coating and use light pressure while working.

I'm going to try the muratic acid.
Of that does not work,
I'll do the cerium oxide.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I just ordered the cerium oxide. I know that will work.
I figure instead of hoping the muratic acid works, why not just go with what i know will work.
Amazon has it here by tomorrow.
I've got me weekend project.😁

This has been interesting...

I decided to water tight test the tank.
I filled it with tap water to let it run.

You would think I haven't done this before with the mistake I made.

I had the return line hooked up to the drain line!
Almost flooded the house.

I'm glad I found this out with tap water instead of ro/di saltwater.

I'm draining the tank now so I can reverse the lines.

Oh no. Yes, glad you figured that out before hand.

Its been a while and since there has been a little activity I figured I would post a couple new pics. Hopefully they look ok yellow filter pretty much my whitest point of the day. I still had to do some editing as the pics look way more blue than it actually is.
