On the subject of the build, new tiger wood and dragon stone should be here today. It will give me the chance to see if I’ll have enough hard scape or if I will be on the hunt locally.

I went hunting in the desert to find rock for the "in process" JBJ 65g; rock hunting is great fun, and love the price! Not sure if I'll be adding wood to the hardscape, but it will be a few weeks before I'm back home. Plan to plant heavily from the start to keep algae issues at bay. Using a DIY lighting program to just provide a small amount of light so the tank doesn't look like a black hole.

Did someone say, "Black hole?"

I agree, it’s a great song. I’m a metal head who listens to some country sometimes. Muse is one of the few alternative bands I really like, I have most of their stuff on my phone.

The stuff you find locally here wouldn’t be good in a planted. If all goes well and I set the tank up this weekend I won’t have any plants. My wife has a 5 gallon freshwater and I’ll use some media from hers to seed the tank. Then kind of like you, just a little light for about a week or two and let it settle in. Initial fill will be a mix of RO and RODI water to help keep back algae and no CO2 or ferts till there are plants. Once it’s stocked and running I’ll switch to using all RO and not use the DI part.

Looking good! Keep posting updated pics....here are a couple of pics of my planted setups.....

Some of the simplest scapes look the nicest (this one isn't mine)......

Very nice! In the pics of your, is that hair grass for the carpet?

I can call and be super chipper...I really am that way.
That wouldn’t turn out good, I’m one of those that are a completely different person in the morning and not a nice version of myself.

Exactly. Nothing like annoying your friends to motivate them to kill you. Or run. :)
Lol it’s true. My wife has it figured out, she says good morning and gives a little kiss and that’s it for a little while. She knows I’m not ready to have a conversation when I first wake up.

Will you be doing large (50%) water changes every week to keep organics down and take out excess ferts?

That's the plan, I will bring some water jugs to the office and fill them up all week so I don't drain the entire RO system at work in one go. Plus I'll be running chemi pure green which should help keep some of the excess out.

Yeah, dwarf hair grass. Still required weekly trimming unfortunately lol.

The very first planed I ever did I ran hair grass, it started to spread then just stalled. To be fair, I was running a crappy light and no co2 on that tank. I'm trying to decide what I want to carpet on this tank, hair grass or baby tears. I've never had much luck with baby tears but now it's just a challenge and stubbornness not excepting defeat.

The whole project looks like it's going to get hung up with the rocks and tiger wood. Somehow my order got shipped to north carolina instead of Texas. Company tried to stop it but from the looks of stuff it was delivered. So now it's liable to be next week before it gets here. Oh well, hopefully I get the tank soon and can at least look at it and play with the lights.

Bummer but I can see how they mixed up Texas with North Carolona.
