225 gallon stock list ideas

Hello, I will be getting a 225 gallon tank, and the dimensions will be 60"L 30"W 30"H. 180 gallon sump, and I will have it connected to 60 gallons water volume worth of frag tanks. The main system will be sps only. The 3 frag tanks have 1 six line each. "I will include them in the total stock list." Please understand this is a rough draft so please give your 2 cents. "Large tlf reborn for substrate"

Looks good except the Achilles, although your tank has good depth, 5' of swimming space length wise will be a little lacking. The emperor may feel cramped as it gets closer to adult size but that will be alleviated more with the extra depth.

I appreciate your feedback. This is my first real big tank. So I am now getting introduced to the bigger fish. I haven't had any luck keeping six lines/mystery wrasse in my 80 gal or other tanks because they are demons, any tips for a bigger tank like this or should I just continue avoiding them

I plan on upgrading the tank size in 2-3 years. So I will be able to move things over like the bigger tangs and emporer.

Why do you keep losing them? Is it aggression from tankmates, or disease? For a tank that large and with ice sensitive fish on your list I’d start a good QT procedure. Should help you cut down on losses

Aggression I live right by drreefs so I get quarantined fish from him without shipping.

I would add them before any of the larger more aggro fish and make sure you have a very dense rock scape so they have retreats

The six line is the aggressive fish. Unless there's a secret I don't know, adding it early might just make things worse.

That is a lot of fish, and especially with the 60 inch length a lot of those bigger tangs (sailfin, orange shoulder, hippo) and the emperor angel would probably not be a good choice since they all get huge (15” roughly for the emperor, sailfins are the size of a dinnerplate; and the orange shoulder and hippo tangs at about a foot long (some orange shoulders longer). Just my two cents

I agree, 5' long is tight especially for that many. I wouldn't want to keep those fish if 5' severely inhibits their way of life. What has been the problems people usually run into keeping large fish like that in shorter tanks?

Just that, that the fish are cramped. I rescued a sailfin who was in a 90 gallon (I know your tank is way bigger) but she couldnt put her fins up at all. I brought her home to my 300 and now she wont put her fins down and stretchs them out all the way. Shes also stunted growth wise for a 5 year old fish. She should be way bigger. I also saw a hippo from a 5 foot tank that swam in vertical circles because he had no room in his previous tank. It looked like he was sick with a neurological thing that made him only swim in a circle. It was bizarre and sad. After seeing that I took a vlamingi tang off my list because I didnt think an 8 foot tank was long enough for one knowing they are HUGE fish. This is my sailfin, the one with stunted growth I rescued. Shes about 5.5-6 inches, she should be wayyy bigger, she just didnt have room to grow and swim, which is what I personally would be afraid of with the larger fish I mentioned! Just my opinion

I have 3 six lines in 3 frag tanks by themselves. In my other community tanks the six line attack everything.

I see what you are saying with fish having problems in smaller tanks. I am not as experienced as you with large fish keeping. What does the tank being 30" wide and 30" high affect? Would the problem come from too many big fish with those measurements? Or is it one of those things that the length prevents any fish of that size being in the tank?

With the stocking list I will cut the angelfish out. With what @littlefox said I will more than likely cut out most if not all the larger tangs. That will mean I need new stocking options thoug... what are good replacements?

I ignorantly put leopard wrasse on my list forgetting they bury themselves in the sand. They will be taken off the list.
