A welder friend of mine is almost done with my stand. Almost as excited about the stand as I am about the tank.

Looks sturdy! Are you going to leave it bare metal or put a wooden shell around it for aesthetics?

here is an idea I am going to use on my steel stand that is currently just a pile of 20' long steel sticks.

I thibk it would work really well for your stands as you already have the guests in place.

1. find a source for veneered plywood. you can order online but a local.lumber company can source it for you. You are looking for reconstituted or engineered veneer. also known as architectural veneer. This is what I ordered for my 240 cichlid stand.. https://wisewoodveneer.com/product/reconstituted-ebony-wood-veneer-macassar-quarter-cut/

2. cut the plywood into squares about 1/4 shorter than the interior dimensions of the "squares" in your stand.

3. use a forstner bit to drill shallow holes in the back of the plywood that will line up with the gussets in each "square".

4. epoxy magnets in the shallow holes.

5. finish the wood panels with thinned valspar or some other urethane.

6. "click" them into place.

7. of yeah..paint the stand a nice gloss contrasting color.

This would give you a nice contrast between the wood and steel. Look pretty sweet while showing off the steel and wood combo. allow ultimate and easy access... no HINGES! And looking at your stand it's probably 2x2 stock so with 3/4 plywood and the thickness of your gussets you will have a nice 1/2 reveal where the steel sits proud of the wood.

I'm going to attach a little fabric pull tab on one of the panels so that it will be easy to take one panel off and pop the rest off.

just an idea. you could always just skin it with plywood and make it look like the 1,000s of stands you see everywhere....

I shoukd start mine in a week or two..
