Stand is done (minus the cabinet doors I'm having made)! Now on to the canopy tomorrow

Looking good! Next time, I would put the top piece of trim on the stand after placing the tank. Also, I'm sure you accounted for the existing bottom trim on the tank, right? And I'm wondering; is the existing bottom trim on the tank flush with the tank? If so, are you planning to put a sheet of plywood and insulation on the stand? Just curious...

Thanks. Yes I accounted for the trim on the bottom. Although I added an extra sheet of plywood not pictured so I have a half inch and 3/4" sanded high grade plywood on top for extra stability and leveling of the minor gaps in the stand. I have gone back and forth about adding foam as I've heard mixed things for glass framed aquariums, not sure if I want to do that. The trim does come up but doesn't cover the bottom trim on the tank completely now that I added the extra plywood but I'm ok with that.

I asked if the bottom piece of the tank frame/trim was flush to the bottom for reasons of adding the foam insulation. I get where you're coming from on using it or not. Either way it's looking good and I'm looking forward to more in your build!

No the bottom of the trim is not flush with the glass, only the bottom frame sits on the stand. Thanks!

Canopy is done! Just have to paint the inside white and stain the outside. I plan on recessing the viparspectra lights into the hood by cutting holes in the top and having a bracket for them to rest on to keep them away from the salt air. What should I use in the cutout to support the light? Glass, a light diffuser? I am worried about heat and dont want to filter out the UV

No the bottom of the trim is not flush with the glass, only the bottom frame sits on the stand. Thanks!

@crusso1993 Not sure if I was clear before. But with the tank sitting on the stand the trim on the stand comes up to cover about 1 of the 2 inches of the tanks trim so I could still use foam and not see it but not sure if I want to yet

Not sure I'm following you on this one. You say you're going to have a bracket for the Viparspectras to rest on but then ask what to use in the cutout to support them. I would steer clear of glass as they affect light spectrum.
Anyway, what about using stainless steel hooks and wire them to the hooks? Then you could cut out a couple holes, mount computer fans for exhaust and use a potentiometer to control the fans.

I plan on cutting holes just big enough for the lights to fit through but having a frame around the edges of 1"x2"s and some type of acrylic or glass on the bottom so the lights sitting on top are completely sealed from the salt. They do make special uv transmitting glass and acrylic but its expensive. Wondered if anyone had any other ideas.

Well, for starters; if you're going to have any automation controls i.e. - Neptune you could start laying out the mounting board you'll use for different modules. You can also add any type of controllers for pumps, wave makers, etc.

Just a thought...

Yeah I think at some point I'll add them. And it is a good idea to lay it out beforehand. But the sump fills so much of the stand and the rest will be taken up by the calcium reactor I haven't even begun to think about where I'll mount all the controllers. Maybe on the inside of the far right cabinet door?
