So after a 5 year break in the hobby I came back. I bought someone elses disaster off of craiglist about 3 months ago. The story so far...

026.jpg

The day after I brought the tank home, everything was covered in hair algae. The tank came with a canister filter, 250 watt metal halide, 30ish pounds of live rock, and a maxi jet 1200.

I had a local shop build me a overflow box and this was the night before I turned it into swiss cheese for the beananimal overflow and return.

Uncleaned but done!

Today while getting ready to try out the beananimal overflow for the first time.

First off, thanks guys. I really am trying to take my time and do this thing right. Did some water tests today so far so good, I think a water change tomorrow will finish off dropping my nitrates down (right now they are around 5-10).

Here's a updated picture with the aquascape. The I ziptied a lot of the rock together and need to get some of the purple epoxy to hide them, it is on my to do list.

Also if you have not looked into the Beananimal overflow system you really should. It is 100% dead quiet, if only my pump would stop its hum then I wouldn't even be able to tell the tank was running!

Tank is sitting at ~2000 gph of flow, should work until I can pick up two vortechs:bigsmile:

For livestock I plan on having a pair of Darwin clowns, Pair of Cardinals, and a hawkfish. As far as coral go the tank will mostly be LPS, I love hammers, torches, frogspawns as well as Montiporas.

Thanks, it really is hard to believe that those are the same tank and even the same rock for that matter. I ruined a brand new wire grill brush scrubbing that rock!
