I am in the process of working on a 40 breeder as a frag tank and want some help selecting utilitarian fish.

Im looking for fish that help with algae, help with pests, add nutrients to the water.

So far in thinking a lawnmower blenny for algae control and a wrasse of sorts for pest control. In not opposed to adding a bucket of sand for a wrasse.

What else should I consider? What type of wrasse?

The lawnmower is a good choice or you could go with a smaller tang, something like a kole or tomini.
A sixline wrasse will stay smaller and do a good job at pest control.

A wrasse may not be a good choice unless you use a cover or netting to keep it from jumping out, however, a sixline would be my choice fr that size tank. Bangii cardinals would be one consideration along with a pair of clowns.

I have 3 sixlines so that would be my choice for pests. Then a smaller tang like a bristle tooth or maybe even a yellow tang. I've had two lawn mower blennies and neither ate algae plus they like to perch on top of rocks so might not be a good idea for a frag tank?

No concerns with the clowns hosting frags? They can be pretty loving.. lol

So you think a 40B is large enough for a Tomini? I know they’re the smallest tang at about 6”. Asking for a friend… 😅
