40b reef tank

Alright so I am going to be upgrading my 20 gallon tall to a 40gallon breeder reef tank.I would like to keep the setup under $500 could you please tell me what to buy.I would like to have a mixed reef tank.

I would say your best bet is finding a used system. May have to wait a while for one to come around, but that would be the only way I can see you getting a complete setup around $500.

Would you be doing a skimmer? What kind of filtration if no sump?

if you wait for petco to have a dollar a gallon sale you can get a 40b for $40, then look for a good used skimmer, and lights. then all you need is sand and i would buy that new, and all that will put you close to $500. then you have the rock out of you 20G but you still may need a little bit more.

thats the great thing about that sale. you dont know till it comes out or unless someone who works at pestco posts it before its announced.

and you better be fast, they don't carry more than 1 or 2 40b's and they are the first to go :)

Yeah, usually comes around 3-4x a year though for a month or so.

the last one was i think the end of jan so i sould venture off and speculate there should be one coming up real soon.
