Looking at dabbling with a sb reef light for my 40 mainly SPS up top and LPS in the lower middle. I already have 1 LED fixture with just not enough par and wanting a better spectrum it has great features but not powerful enough. Soooo I was wondering if you'd think adding the 16" basic to my already LED LPS with a couple basic sps (birdsnest and monti cap) tank to help get a better spread and more par?

I think the only issue you may run into is color matching them to be even on both sides of the tank. If you have access to a par meter I’d say go for it if you don’t mind two different fixtures above your tank.

The plan is too buy 2 eventually and run them sideways. And I didnt think of the color matching that's a great point....thanks man! And what would it look like?

Well by having two different brands, they could be at the same par levels but one could have more blues in it and if you tried to color match it could up the par on one side and/or lower the par. Best bet would be to just save for the 30-32”? model.

I guess but when I upgrade to 6 foot long narrow tank in a a year or too...I'll have to upgrade again so I thought of having the 16s width wise a pair and adding more when I get the longer tank and keep them width wise in a wall display. Idk I'm just brain storming ideas.

So what about just a single 16" sb reef light? Would that work for just my basic SPS?

It would work but you will be low on par on the sides and have a bit of shading. It should work if you keep the sps more towards the middle.
