Hey yall

I’ve had a tank for a while (about a year and a half). Right after I stocked it with a yellow eye kole, 2 clowns, dwarf Angel, diamond goby, skunk and fire shrimp my son was born and everything dealing with the tank has been on cruise control.
Now it’s time to really stock the fish so I can move on to coral once I move to my new house.
What kind of fish y’all recommend? I personally like colorful fish that look cool.
Thinking of doing but not limited to:
Sunburst anthia
Fuzzy Dwarf lion (love these guys but I know my shrimp will go but hopefully not my clowns)
A couple of wrasse
Royal gramma
Purple tang
Gem tang in the future

open to all ideas. Price I don’t care about much but don’t wanna spend over 1k on a fish.

I’m building a 4x2x2 120 and I would not put that many tangs in my tank. Nor that many fish in general.

here’s my list:
Mimic chocolate tang
One spot foxface
Pair of clowns.
small Atlantic blue tang
4 fairy/flasher wrasse
1 workhorse wrasse
Midas blenny
Assorted small cryptic gobies.
MAYBE a valentini

Going on two years with this stock list and no deaths yet but I do get the occasional ich outbreaks. I’d say it’s going good but I hate that I’ll have to take a couple fish out soon. My favorite two actually; the twin spot and PBT. They’re 6 inches long and need more tank length to enjoy. I get all my fish as juvis and return the big ones for store credit or trade ins

If you want an Angel then I recommend a Genicanthus Angel (G. semifasciatus and melanospilos IME are the most reef safe because they’re found deeper down so the rarer the Angel I find the more reef safe it will be). I recommend wrasses for any large enough tank since they tend to be very nice CUC fish too.

I recommend against the Jade and Black margin since they’re usually aggressive (My jade is being returned this week due to attacking the radiant) however, If a 120 is 5’ long I would say Atleast 8 if there’s room for them to sleep!
I can’t find anything on them however, my LFS has a flashing tilefish in and he looks beautiful so I’ll get him when I trade in the Jade if he’s there still.

Thanks. 8? That’s a lot. I’m thinking 4-5 for my 4 footer. Ya I wasn’t planning on the jade as it’s considered “expert” also doubt my lfs would carry. It’s crazy I live in Los Angeles , one of the worlds biggest city but my lfs ain’t the best.

Yeah 4-5 would be better, 8 is with no other fish haha although I remember someone with 8 in a 4’ tank. I’ll eventually have 6 or 7 (Basically 13-14 fish total). IME jades aren’t expert and are more easy except aggressive, I have 5 wrasse at the moment but 4 in a few days. That number will creep up though since I have two others getting ready for the tank.

I have 13 wrasses in 4 footer. No issues. I think it really depends on the species you want to keep.
Trust me, it does. Any aggressive species of wrasse like me I don’t want more than 5 or 6 in the tank, if they were peaceful I’d have more of a variety.

I have 15 fish in my 120.
1 convict and 1 tomini tang.
The convict is already to big for this tank and I plan on rehoming it to a 500 gal.
The tomini is just about right for a 120, imo.

I agree with the bristletooths, I find that tominis and the smaller bristles (White tail, Twin spot, Kole ect..) are just right for 4’ tanks
