I've owned a 5017 for 7 years. I bought it new, and had been used on same system since then, 28 gallon bow. A week ago it starts beeping, so I unplug and let sit a day. I plug it back in and fills tank appropriately like nothing is wrong. About 30 mins later, starts beeping again. I unplug again for 2 days and same thing happens. Ideas? Can it be fixed?

I was just looking at new ato 3 and i can't use new pump in my setup. I remember this is why I bought this one now. Any thoughts ideas would be greatly appreciated.

@rvitko can likely help out

I will say, do you want to use the new pump and can’t or don’t know that you can? It’s a separate part and specifically made to fit the older Osmolator

Can you tell me what lights are on when it beeps? Beeping is usually an indicator of a bad pump causing it to power cycle or that you turned the pump speed all the way up, connected a wrong power supply, corroded wires, basically for some reason the controller is being starved for power. The new pump will work in any situation the old one would and you can still get the old pump. To use the new pump in a jug you need the optional slim line fitting, I generally do not recommend jugs (to hard to access the pump for troubleshooting air locks) and I do not recommend upgrading the pump as the retrofit pump only works on a 3152 or 3155 and these older controllers will eventually fail so the investment is better put to a 3151 or 3154. At 7 years old, if the pump is the original it is definitely in the bonus round, the pumps usually last a few years. If it beeps with too high and too low lights on that indicates water damage.

No, the old pump was a very basic brush motor, the new pump is no different than a DC aquarium powerhead and requires a driver circuit and has a two way communication with the controller. This would not make a lot of sense to do as the new pump is really the single biggest improvement, you can disassemble it, repair it, it lasts a very long time. The old pump was throw away, lasted a few years on average. If you are insistent on a jug for top off, this fitting will generally reduce the pump size so it will fit, the hose is somewhat less secure with this fitting and we generally suggest just a simple bucket for an ATO, it makes all service much easier and they are usually available for free.

Thanks for all your help! Change is hard for this old-timer.
