Good morning everyone. New to the hobby. I was into saltwater tanks 20 years ago so it's been quite awhile. Was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and in remission now. I need something I enjoy and love to occupy my time. Long story short a person 5 minutes down the road is moving and willing to give me his 54 gallon reef aquarium for $200 complete with everything. It has been running for 3 years without issue. I just wanted everyone's opinion good bad or ugly. I'm only 5 minutes away but it's a big undertaking. The tank is beautiful though. Yes I'm willing to dedicate time and effort in the long run for this. See attached pictures and let me know your opinions. Thank you so much in advance and happy to be a part of this community.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

I personally don't care for bowfront tanks, I feel that they distort the livestock, but if you like it it's a great deal!

Welcome! Like others have shared, I'd also grab a $200 gallon tank including everything from someone local if I were in the market for a tank. Once you have it, you'll figure out the things you like, don't like, and possible future tank(s) may differ but buying used from someone reputable and local is always an advantage. Both my 180gallon mixed reef and 60 gallon FOWLR tanks were previously owned by others, and I got them used (and there was at least one other FOWLR tank that I bought then sold along the way).

Glad you found us! There is a lot of good information on this site. Patience is the magic in this hobby.

Thank you everyone for your honest opinions and welcoming me to your community. On a side note would it be a good idea to get a nice 40gallon rimless tank and swap everything over? Equipment and contents of tank? I don't really care for the bow look and don't have a corner available plus there is janky blue paint on the sides I don't care for if it isn't going in a corner?

I ask because Petco has them half off I can get one for $60
