Lol “that BRS throws around”

You know those numbers that have been scientifically studied by Dana Riddle and many others. Yeah, those totally suck! :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
I have been in the hobby 30 years and met him personally and I am also a marine biologist, so yes, I know. They are easy to hit at a low cost and they are reasonably effective for a wide variety of species. They just aren’t necessarily optimal for shallow water SPS which a lot of hobbyists like to keep and given that all other parameters are optimal, one could see faster growth with higher PAR depending on the species. Google scholar is your friend. :)

Btw I am involved with a successful sexual spawning, propagation operation here and my wife has a clam grow out operation, and we use natural sunlight which results in several thousand par. Sure 250-300 will do it, but why not do it better if you can? However, I probably tend to have too much of an operational mindset, rather than a purely hobby one!
