Love how it is coming! are you taking live rock from the nanocube?

Thanks. I had some Marco Rock left over so I used some of that and then I took some rubble and one large rock out of the cube. I will still need a little more live rock but I am planning to have more of an open aquascape in this tank.

wouldnt it be cleaner if you built a fake small back wall to hide the heater? maybe have the hob filter dump water in there and cut down on microbubbles? maybe even have some chaeto back there?

It has been a while since I have updated this. The tank shut down for a little while and I am revamping. I have taken down the led light hanger and built a hood. I was having far too much evaporation. The new hood is definitely not as cool as the walnut covered one but it works. Still have the same LED set up. Upgraded the HOB filter though. I added a few frags from my other tank about a week ago. Everything seems to be doing ok. Hopefully this set up will work out better.

I just got my order from World Wide Corals today! 6 chalices, a hammer and purple monti. NICE NICE NICE!!! Trying to take better pictures.....still learning. I only took pictures of the chalices. The bicolor hammer was not out yet. They have been in the take for about an hour. I fully expect them to make a good transition.

They look great! Can't wait to see them grow out. Are you going to leave them on the sand or move them to the rock after they acclimate?

Thanks! The plan right now is to leave them on the sand. For a couple reasons. One, I think it would look cool to have the bottom covered in chalices. Two, I am afraid the light would be too strong if I move them up on the rocks. I would hate to loose the vibrant colors.

Yes indeed, that is going to be a nice 30 G tank indeed. I run a 20 High, and will be changing over to a 20 long with a sump in the next week or two ..

Thanks, Alberthiel and Zach. I have always loved nanos and picos. One of my favorites that I have had was my 2.5g that I ran for 3 years. Wish I still had that tank. I'll check out you guys tanks.

I think the 20L is a great way to go. You get lots of room to work with, the fish have plenty of swimming room and it's more shallow for good light penetration. Excited to see it get going.

Thanks and yes I agree a 20 L is better than a 20 H ... and does indeed make scaping a lot easier too .. it will be another week or two before I make the change over though as I am still working on the book ..

Soutzee-- I got the DIY LED kit from Rapid LED. The URL is Rapid LED. I think they have great kits at a good price. Good selection too. I will be interested to see your 2.5g!

Just finished making the hood and light hanger. I am pretty happy with the way that it turned out. I just need to veneer the hood. I am going to get some sweet looking burl veneer to cover it with. Next step is to get some live sand and live rock then the water will come!

Let me know what you think and any suggestions you might have.

Looking good .. are you venting the hood in plenty of areas so the heat can escape? You may want to put small fans on the sides of the hood to really force the hot air out and get the heatsinks to cool down and draw heat away from the LED's as heat is what can affect them the most, together with plastic capacitors on the circuits rather than ceramic ones which will last a lot longer ... Following ....

On the new hood I have two cut out vents in the back of the hood. I probably do need to add a fan or two to help with the heat. There is very little water temp fluctuation when the lights are on. How does the heat affect the LEDs?
