Hey yall deciding between a 70-90 gallon and I can’t go bigger. When considering a tank for 2 tangs is it better to have depth or height? 18 inches length enough with a 21-24 height . My end goal is a fish only tank with possibly a Kole tang and orange shoulder tang And 2-3 wrasses. Along with starfish if possible in this tank. I also might add black damsels 4-5 if that isn’t too much to add activity!

Depth is definitely more important for tangs but i would go as big as you can.

orange shoulder tangs are massive, they get way too big for either of those tanks. I would go for a yellow or purple instead.

You could possibly keep two tangs in either of those tank sizes, but I’d stick with just one. Having two might cause some problems.

2-3 wrasse is fine but i think that many black damsels is a very bad idea. Even one black damsel is a bad idea.

Tangs swim, they need tank LENGTH to really be happy. This is why so many of us Tang Aficionado's have 7 and 8 foot tanks. 70 or 90 is a 4ft tank. that is to short for nearly all except maybe Kole and Skopas tangs, or a Tomini possibly.
