Hello there! I’ve been out of the hobby for around 9 years now and I finally got the approval from the wife to get a new tank together! Stoked on this one. I took my time with the build and tried to plan for everything that I possibly could. The tank dimensions are 47”l x 22”w x 17”t. Front glass is low iron. I definitely have way too much lighting. But I’d rather have too much than too little. Par readings are 450/500 on top and 250 in the sand.

I’m a woodworker by trade, so was able to build a custom stand and canopy that I really think turned out pretty slick. Interior of the stand is made from solid white oak with the exterior being quarter sawn ash. The inside is finished in an automotive high gloss polished finish. Exterior is finished in a European style hard wax oil. Tank specs are below. Let me know what you think!

Custom made aquarium 47x22x17
3 XR-15 blue
4 36” 36w t5 10k bulbs
2 MP40QD
Return pump Ecotech L2
Clarisea SK-5000XL fleece roller

I’ll have to double check. It’s not a high end tank manufacturer. Just somebody out of LA.

The tank was made by Visio. I ordered it a year ago, so that’s why I couldn’t remember. Haha.

Whelp. So far had to work out a few kinks. The motor for the clarisea roller was bunk. Took a few weeks to get the replacement one in! Had to hand roll the dang thing like 3 times a day. New motor is in and it works perfectly now. These things are so amazing. Added a few fish this week after a long QT. Everything is testing at 0 so I feel confident in putting them in there. Added a scopus tang, a velvety wrasse and a black and white clown. It has also exploded with copepods. Colonies of hundred of them are all over the glass. As well as those tiny little clear anemones! So cool seeing things just populate. So much hair algae though! I’m kind of enjoying it though, adds tons of movement. Haha.

Here is the inside of the canopy. Par readings are 450 at the top and 250 at the sand bed. Going to be 90% sps! Can’t wait for corals. Although I have to. Haha.

It’s kinda strange. Well, I guess not strange, but certainly unexpected. I have around 60# of macro rocks in the tank, 10-15# of dead live rock and a 2lb chunk of LR. This hair algae is out of control, but it is only coming out of the macro rocks. It sprouted out of the pores of the rock. I think there must have been spores inside the macro rocks! Pretty cool. Has that happened with anyone else? I would expect all the rock to get it, but it’s only sticking to the macro rocks.

Looks great.
Also like the marine-green carpet/rug.
Looks like “Bimini Road”.

Love the custom stand. Did you use mostly plywood? You got that grain running in the right direction for the doors! Did you get that fan from Acinfinity?

Thank you! No plywood here. All solid wood. Solid white oak interior and solid quarter sawn ash exterior. Thats why i had to put those battens on the back of the doors, too keep them from curling from the moisture inside the stand, and the dry conditions on the exterior, that right there will cause wood to twist, cup, crown, you name it. And i went with the 1/4 sawn material because it’s generally more stable as most of its movement is in thickness and not width like flat sawn/plain sliced.

I bought 95% of everything from BRS.
