On Wednesday I redid the rock work. And our RBTA has been missing since. I do not know if the watermelon bta ate him or if he is hiding under this cave on the right. I had originally placed him on the top front of the cave and he set his foot. We woke up in the morning and he has been missing since. The watermelon is around 6-7 inches and the rbta was about 3. I’m so bummed he is gone. He was a pretty one.

Unless your tank is cloudy with bits of anemone all over the place..it may have just gone walkabout and found a cave to attach to. You could tear down your rock and look...but I would just give it a few more days. MY BTA originally did the same thing..thought i lost it. Turns out that it just found a little crevice, deflated and took its time getting comfortable. All you can do is wait it out. The other thing you might want to consider is just use a cheapie API and test for nitrate daily just in case it bit the dust.

Here are the parameters. IMO they are not that bad. So I don’t know why it’s hiding. Other than being disturbed.

Redoing the rock work can change the lighting and flow which are the primary factors in a BTA relocating.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of it. Lighting did change. It used to be camped out at the sand bed then I moved it up to the top front of the rock. It was done at night and lights were only at 5%. It was opened all the way but you are right. The lighting did change.

how long do you think it will stay hiding for? Months?

Nah, it should pop out after a couple days typically, if healthy.

Hiding. seldom do they do it, but may slip into overflow box but likely in some crevice or area where there is shade. Increasing water flow or reducing light intensity often forces them to move.

All you can do is wait or actively search. They can shrink up pretty good so you will need a flashlight and will likely have to turn rocks.
