I have the DIY screen, it was cheap, and it is cheap. I would spend the money on the "clearview lid" or there is also the "safe top lid" both will make it easier to feed, and clean. Both are things you will need to do often and it is a pain to lift the screen up and down for feedings and taking it off and on for maintenance and cleaning. If you plan to have this tank for a while and don't see upgrading then spend the money.

Nice! Thank you for sharing ! That’s what I need to know. I want something practical for feeding. I recently took down my standard 90 gallon reef tank that was loaded and changed it to African Cichlid tank as I couldn’t keep up with both of them after my health issue this year. This was my old tank . I miss that one .

You’ll need a hack saw, mitre box, and tape measure for success. Wasn’t too bad to cut and assemble

I wish I could give insight to your issue but unfortunately I'm new to this. Tank looks awesome. Really digging your aqua scape. Was wondering if the lights you are using are the Hydra 26s? And if you are happy with them no matter the brand?

Thanks! I’m excited about this shallow reef tank .So far I moved several of my acans,some montipiras, and a few others to start out with. I had a health scare 4 months ago and have been sidetracked with that some . I am glad I my GHL doser up and running then. I like the hydra. Hd 26 lights a lot. My acan colors have been much better under these lights . I had acans in my 90 with viper spectra leds which I saw tons of growth out of all my lps/sps. But the coral colors under were not as good as the hydras.

IMO nothing other than coral, fish or equipment upgrades is worth that! In the next few days I'm going to go to home depot and see what i can cook up. If i can Make it work cheap and easy ill send you a step by step and material list.

my 2 cents...

yes they are $$$ yes it's $$ that can go to coral etc. but we must think of the animals we took form the sea to keep in a box of water in our home. so IMHO I lid is a must of you have jumpers and ever if you dont its just a matter of time all it take is a little spooking and there goes your prized fish.

that siad, sure you can DIY I have done it a few times it wooks but if you can see it often IMHO a custom lid is the way to go, why speend all that $ on a nice tank , fish coral rocks etc to make it look like crap on top? yes there so much $$ I know but they do look nice!

toplids started that exco style I believe. worth getting a price qoute from them as well as quto lids too.

if you do DIY there are some nice corners pieces with a flange that ppl use, keeps it inside the tank, I would go that way. also look in to fabric for the top I forget what it's called but a quick search will get the name.

I do love the look of Deep blue tanks they just seems to be hard to get in the rocky mountains. ( with out paying a ton for shipping)

I might have gotten a little lucky I bought my cabinet,tank , and eshopps r200 sump and return pump for $350 from my local LFS friend . You’re getting good deal being new !
I know the cost of this setup new is around 2 grand I think ? One the my favorite setups I’ve ever had !

Looking sweet ! Def one of the best reef tanks ever , I have a 4 yrs old DB 80 rimmed ;) I have seen that lid a few times , this was everybodys goto tank round these parts, more of these than any other tank id say , Im one of the few that runs the rim so my fish dont take the dip , the lip is sick :) Plus a lilttle added beef never hurts when your hovering 80g of water in the air. I would def say it works well , the feeding and removing thing though kinda is a pain. I almost bought a used rimless 80 the other day but the amount of snails , and fish I have lost on my rimless tanks is sad . I think alot of people feel that way. As for your assumption about cost , for that style setup today ,would be an easy 2k , problem is nobody makes that style tank except seapora , which is basically DB , so fish-store distributor only. They are basically "commercial" grade tanks that were designed to display in stores , so they look insane , its a type of low iron glass which is akin to star-fire but does not scratch as easy also. Even the black silicone etc..., these tanks are way in a league of their own.Most dont let them go. You sir definitely picked a winner.

You're welcome... Yes I like it better than any tank I've had. Good quality stand.. and tank is awesome! My stand is partially open which I do not mind. If this is your first rimless tank be prepared to buy at ATO due to quite a lot of daily evaporation loss.

Okay. The tank has 2 doors and is open in back though i am not for sure is open back is standard

2 is enough. Hydras spread is 24” by 24” I have several montipora and bird of paradise , a few acros growing well with lighting . The only issue I have had this year was 0 po3 and 0 no3

I went with and acrylic top with feeding holes several moths back instead of screen . Very happy with doing this . My evaporation rate is nullified and the humidity is more manageable in my aquarium room.
