Hi guys. Decided to build a thread about my 80 gallon strugle. So tank is working for about 2 years now. Started with the idea only rock and predators.

Will give full details about the tank a bit later.

The tank was active about 1 year in the original setup. I had a snowflake, 3 midget puffers, one sweet lips and one lionfish. With time due to a bacterial infection I lost 1 puffer, my sweet lips and my lionfish. Really sad times but with this hobby is like that. About 2 months ago decided I want to go back to mixed reef setup ( had a 20g and a 5g mixed reef before ), so gave the snowflake to a friend, kept my 2 puffers, added a orange spotted tang and a pair of clowns and the let the buying of corals begin. Added 2 BTA, 1 torch and 3 heads Euphyllia LPS. Stocked with aquaforest products and the journey continues. Need a lot of work but will get there, thats the beauty of it, the waiting.

It’s such a shame your lionfish died… just a quick heads up, if that tang is Acanthurus olivasceus, it will out grow a 80g tank. If that tank is 4’ then you’d be better off with a Ctenochaetus species instead (Or a mimic but I’m unsure about if they truly can fit in 4’ tanks). Other than that its looking good!!

Its a olivasceus indeed. Its starting to change its colors, so yeah, pretty soon its going to get too big. Will need to find a new home. Anyone using salifert testing for phosphate and nitrate? Accoording to the test my phosphate is at 3 ppm, wich is way to high. And i have no algae problems.

Hi guys. Is it normal to get reading with salifert tests PO4 - 3 and NO3 - 50? It seems really odd to get this readings especially for phosphate. I have no algae, with this high values I should have something going on algae wise. Thanks.

So, about 2 months ago I got 2 BTA s. One found a spot in the first week. Second one hasnt stopped messing about. Finds a spot, stays for a week or so and then moves again. But last night this idiot got the best of it, and went straight into the grid. Got sucked and this morning found it like that. Managed to keep its foot sticked to the back glass and didnt get sucked in. So I was thinking now I need to get this sucker out of the tank so I dont mess everything else. Got it out from the holes and to my surprise it was still alive and almost imediatly the foot stucked really hard on the glass. So went to work and got my finger crossed that when I go back home tonight its going to be ok and away from the grid.

Also got this shots last night, the one really pumped up is the one that got caught into the grid and on the upper side of the tank, second one wich looks like...well not that good, its on the bottom of the tank. The differences are pretty obvious.

So, since yesterday I am taking of my system and selling everything. Last night a friend came by and bought all the fishes and corals, now waiting to sell everything else. Got into a dead end money wise and I have to sell the one thing that makes me smille when coming back from work. Just started to transform everything into reef tank after 2 years only rock and predator fishes, and now I have to say goodbye.

Hopeffully soon enough I will have the posibility to start again, maybe with a smaller tank. In the meantime I will follow all the interesting tanks here, and nice people. Thats about it...

I’m so sorry that happened, hopefully you will be able to get a tank back up at some point in the future.
