9 month no water changes

This is my strictly 0 water change only Rodi auto top off reef tank. How does it look? Some corals look a bit bleached and dying because I had a very crazy pistol shrimp who insisted on burying everything that was on the sand bed but took him back to store. I have no done a water change in 6-9 months and everything is flourishing so I’m not sure what all the fuss is about when my corals are growing fast if not faster then most peoples.

looks decent to me too! I also rarely do water changes unless something seems off and I can't otherwise diagnose and correct it.

Same as well here I have a 5 gallon bucket on standby for emergencies but I haven’t had to use it at all

To be honest, I believe you, but the image is too blue to make out much of the corals.
There used to be a member that had a spectacular tank, with a lot of sps, he had not done a water change in years.

Where I’m curious is to see if you did a WC if you would see a noticeable improvement. I religiously do 10 gallon weekly WC and I can see a big improvement in coral health with each WC, with a noticeable increase in growth after.
Do my corals look bad before? No. Do they look better after? 100 percent.

Yeah I’m not to sure how but my calcium stays pretty high sometimes to high according to my test

I would but I’m a big believer in the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mindset and as long as my corals are growing and look good I’m happy

Alkalinity would be the fastest thing to become a problem in a no dose / no water change tank with hard corals.

Are you monitoring alk?

No water change is doable. Not dosing anything is impossible in the life time of the tank. Alk, Cal, Mg will be needed at one point.

You also have easy corals. Unlike some who have many hard to care for corals and costly corals.

Orrrr could be dying because of lack of water changes. Just pointing out the more likely possibility here.

If you can maintain alk and calcium levels without dosing and water changes that would indicate your stony corals are not growing.

With all due respect, that's a pretty simple tank with easy corals and they don't look that great to my eye either.
Don't mean to sound like a jerk but that's how I see it. Personally, I have always done water changes and have no doubt that your system would benefit from reg wc's with quality salt.

Tank looks good! I'm also curious how you are managing the tank without doing anything!

Well the corals that were dying were literally buried by the pistol shrimp if you would take the time and read instead of being ignorant

Thank you so much I am not really sure either I am not home that much because of college so I just top of the ato with Rodi water so I think I just have really good water by pure chance or something
