Hey all few years back 4-5 years ago. I got my first saltwater tank grabbed it off someone on craigslist they broke it down and came over to help set it back up as i had no clue what i was doing.

Tldr; I did no water changes for a couple years just topped off with ro i got down too two fish, a red slime break out and my protein skimmer pump died. So i decided to get back in the hobby found brs made a ton of videos. Thanks to this I got the tank back up and running ok not good yet...

My Sump is a pro clear aquatic wet/dry but the bioballs stay submerged not sure if a baffle broke or not but its been like this for 3+ years.

I also have a ton of detritus in the bioballs section that ive been slowly taking out with water changes (Prefer to vacuum the sand then the sump ) .

The sump just bothers me i know bio balls are useless but the fact mine are submerged makes me feel a bit more off. not sure what route to go.
some pics of my tank attached.

I'd dump the Bio-Ball's all together, and let your sand and live rock do the job.

Scroll down and read Randy's #5 point, real slow.

If you want a new sump, then I'm partial to the new GEO's sumps.

If your not happy:
It really boils down to you, doing you maintenance and staying on top of your nitrates and phosphates.

Bump :) any advice would be appreciated. It seems like my skimmer may be overkill which is good/bad?
asm g-4 with a Sedra pump all stock no mods

Should I pull the bio balls out and let the water trickle down? The baffle isn't holding water correctly I think as the bio balls float up.
