Hi everyone, looking to set up a new tank and looking at some help for combinations/number of each I might be able to have. Below is a list of all fish I’m interested in for either behavior or color.

Valentini puffer
Purple, yellow or Koli Tang
Hawkish
Flame Angel
Sunburst Anthia
Foxface
Blue throat trigger
Mandarin
Sixline Wrasse or similar
Royal Gramma
Cardinals
Clownfish
Blenny or gobys

Everything looks good except the trigger. They get too big and too aggressive.

The only fish in the list you can get more than one of is the anthias, clowns, and cardinals.

One thing to note is that valentine puffers sometimes nip and go after small inverts. Hawkfish also sometimes go after inverts.

A purple tang would be okay but I would go for a yellow or Kole tang instead.

Get the mandarin last.

Thanks for the reply, do you mind giving me a recommendation of how many of each for the cardinal and Anthia’s, assuming I’m doing one of the rest (2 clowns obviously)?

Hey, I’m about to get water in the tank, so a ways yet till fish, but had another question. Based on the group of fish I mentioned before, should I be worried about a certain clean up crew (mainly the puffer)?

Yeah, if you have snails, small crabs, and small shrimp, theres a chance it will go after them. They don’t always do it, but its not uncommon.

Thanks for answering, and last question I promise. What is the order you’d probably introduce all those first to minimize as much chaos as possible?

None of the fish you have are super territorial or aggressive so I wouldn’t worry about stocking order too much. I would just add the flame angel and puffer after you get corals, and then get the tang and fox face last.

Not sure if I agree with this.

My yellow tang in a 150 is a complete terror to new members.

Before that the bristletooth was worse.

If it were my tank, the tangs, flame angel, sixline, and mandarin would enter simultaneously together.

I have a yellow tang in my 75, he was the first addition and I haven’t had any problems. every fish is different of course but I think he should be fine to add whatever at any time, but just to be safe he can add the tang and fox face last like I mentioned.

Hahaha wow I’m sorry. I completely missed that you said that =-/.

But to be honest I got my tang from biota at 1” and since he was so small I placed them in first and he’s just been an *******. He’s grown so fast and he bullies my wrasses and flame hawk.

He’s killed a magnificent foxface twice his size initially.

Oddly enough he never looks at my possum wrasse ever.
