So is the 9410 essentially an old school venturi skimmer, and how would it do on a well stocked 120 g,Im liking the fact there's no gimmickry, cone, bubble plate etc.

It is a needle wheel skimmer, they have been available since 2008 so they are fairly tried and true. In general our rating is as follows-

9410- 265 gallon FOWLR or Dutch Reef (A dutch reef was basically a fish only focused on macro algae with a few mushrooms and leathers, this was one of the oldest style reef tanks)
9410 DC 317 gallons as above

For a soft coral focused reef, deduct 20%
For a mixed reef deduct 40%
For an SPS tank deduct 60%.

Personally the AC model I would consider maxed out at a 120 mixed reef but it can definitely do it. The DC model is a little stronger and will definitely do the job.

Yes, you only need a 7" by 10" area.
