This is the type of prefilter you will have to run if your city uses chloramimes instead of Cl gas.

I plan on getting a report from the city but have been distracted with a monster ich outbreak. I think people take too little stock in the importance of filtration with all these water conditioners that make water "instantly safe" lol

Well water can have CO2 in it. This will go though an RO filter and burn up your DI resin. In order to prevent this we have to get rid of the CO2. This can be done by running your RO water into a container and letting it sit over night with an air stone running in it. A small pump can then be used to pump the water through the DI canister.
