A/C Pump recommendation - in tank 125g

Hi all,

Looking for in-tank circulation pumps/power head recommendations.

Vortech is the obvious answer for unlimited budgets (tired of the crappy ride in your 25' boat? - buy a 60' Viking).

I have recently (over the past year) decided that I like gyres better than vortecs, with the only benefit to vortechs taking up less space in the tank. I have both MP40s and gyres, and after 2 years of messing with flow settings, I would have rather not purchased the MP40s at all.

Gyres are more affordable and I have found it is easier to use them to create chaotic, random and widely dispersed flow. For your size tank, I bet 2x maxspect 4K gyres would do the trick for just about anything you’d want to keep. I personally love the simple integrated LED controller, but if you’re a software and apex type person, you may disagree. Give it a look, I use this in my frag tank:

I had a Gyre XF330CE and a XF350CE (4 gyres total) and 2 MP60s on my tank. I bought 2 more MP60s and removed all gyres — couldn’t be happier! ;)

Reasons?
1. No wires inside the tank
2. Less bulky
3. Less cleaning!
4. Works seamlessly on Mobius, many different flow patterns
5. Built-in battery backup solution. As a matter of fact, our house lost power and the MP60s ran on battery for 6hrs+
