I have been trying for 6 months to crack 0.41 phosphate. I have burned through GFO and Phosguard, but didn't have a reactor. First day running my new reactor. I'm seeing algae dying. Yeah that's the ticket!

Real hard to do. Seachem says Phosguard will drop Phosphate fast. Hasn't been my experience as I have been struggling to get it down for the past 6 months. Now down from 0.41 to 0.37.

Ah shuckies and hope of lowering or fear of lowering too fast were dashed upon the live rocks this morning,, as the phosphate has risen to 0.43. One bright spot was I thought my Coral Banded shrimp had died but only molted. Onward through the fog! The Phosguard is clumped up in the bottom of my reactor. Is it supposed to tumble?

One bright spot was I thought my Coral Banded shrimp had died but only molted. Onward through the fog! The Phosguard is clumped up in the bottom of my reactor. Is it supposed to tumble?

Well after running Phosguard for one week in my reactor. Coming down albeit slowly. The holy grail of 0.03 is a long way off and may be unattainable with a substrate tank and an algae problem. Will advise. Onward through the fog.

How is this possible? I switched over to GFO in my reactor yesterday. I went from 0.27 to this overnight. I was only running 12 tablespoons for 75 gallons. Weird ,man. GFO is supposed to be a lot slower to work than Phosguard.

That sounds right. GFO is incredibly aggressive. I have seen drops of over 0.20 overnight in a 200 gallon using a quarter of what is recommended.

I’d recommend turning off the GFO and monitoring your phosphate level for the next few days so you don’t strip it all.

I once went from 0.9 to 0.5 overnight on GFO. It’s potent

That sounds right. GFO is incredibly aggressive. I have seen drops of over 0.20 overnight in a 200 gallon using a quarter of what is recommended.

I’d recommend turning off the GFO and monitoring your phosphate level for the next few days so you don’t strip it all.

I have my reactor plumed into my chiller so that's not totally possible but I cut the flow down, and it is cool today so will monitor. It was pretty high over0.90 for several months and there is still a lot of algae so I would imagine a slow release of phosphate for awhile.
