I'm a bit curious as well Kelby. Is this done with an extremely slow shutter speed, image stacking of photos at different time intervals, or some other technique?

Extremely slow shutter speed. The exposure was 35 minutes with 35 additional minutes of in camera hot pixel removal(can not remember the technical name of it off the top of my head).

Wow! How do you set such a long shutter speed? Does it have to be tethered to a laptop and used as a slave for that?

I set the camera to bulb mode and I use a remote shutter control to start the exposure. Eventually, I will get an intervalometer which will allow me to be very precise with my settings.

Nice pic! Very cool! I really got to get me a DSLR...

I would love to go to Joshua Tree and do this, the stars are amazing there and nothing to block the view for hundreds of miles.

Thank you! Those type places are perfect for these kinds of photos. In fact most of the best looking ones, that I have seen, were taken at places like Joshua Tree.

Thank you! What exactly do you want to know? The whole shabang or specific parts of it?
the whole shebang man. i'm a photo junkie but haven't learned any real "techniques" to make pics look cool.
