Definitely requires more consistency. I had LPS & Softies for about 5 years. Recently, about 6 months back made my first true purchase on SPS corals.

For the record, I researched heavy on best beginner options. I ended up getting cheap frags of the following at a Frag Swap Show
* Birdnest coral
* Bubblegum Digitata
* Aquaman Montipora
* Goldrush Montipora
* Sunset Montipora

So far all are surviving and have spread and grown. They are far more finicky than anything else in my tank though. I only run Kessil A360 lights x 2 so I chose SPS corals that don’t require extreme high levels of PAR.

It’s been a fun experience but definitely WAY harder than LPS & Softies.

Moving onward and upward is aways stressful. When I was able to keep birdsnest and monti cap in the biocube with horrible lighting and flow, I lost my fear of SPS. Yeah, you watch everything every day starting out, but that's part of the fun.

I got in about a year ago with easier things like digi and stylo..they did well. Now I'm full blown into them and they are all doing great. Had to basically make the jump and say

I’ve tried countless times….and somehow, I never learn my lesson each time I lose an expensive SPS coral.
I had luck for the longest time with my monti cap. Then my giant leather corals released chemicals into the water, and none of my SPS took it too well…

I dove I head first. It's not done yet but I converted this tank to sps. . I get bored easily and like a challenge. Doesn't always work out well but it keeps me busy and I need to be focused on something or I get depressing thoughts. First LPS / nem set up.

As it is now trying my hand at SPS. Just the beginning and I have another tank so still have all the nice LPS stuff.
