I have an Acan that looks like it has some moldy grayish black sponge taking over. Is it a disease? It looks like it's growing on the plug too. Any clues?

Brown jelly is slimy and stringy. This is soft and thick - it looks like a sponge without pores. It very well be a sponge. Will sponges take over corals?

From what I read on google, yes. Maybe you have the entrusting kind. People say they get out of control and take over coral.

Just googled black sponge growing on coral. Found a few old message boards where people said they had it happen to them. And there are pictures.

I scraped off what I could. It looks like it's definitely choking out the Acan
